Everton should do all they can to hire Eddie Howe to succeed Marco Silva in the Goodison Park dugout, former Toffees striker Kevin Campbell believes.

Silva is under serious pressure following another embarrassing defeat, falling 2-0 at home to Norwich who moved off the foot of the Premier League table with their win.

The result leavesEvertononly four points clear of the bottom three after 13 matches, and Silva, along with Watford’s Quique Sanchez Flores and Unai Emery of Arsenal, is one of the front-runners in the sack race .

Time appears to have run out for Silva on Merseyside

Boos and abuse rang around Goodison Parkfollowing Saturday’s defeat, and Campbell suggested this means Silva’s exit is near.

“Once the fans turn, at Everton especially, I think Marco Silva is done,” Campbell told Jim White on talkSPORT. “His stats are actually worse than Ronald Koeman’s right now!”

But who would the Toffees hero hire to replace Silva, with Everton’s last few appointments all working out pretty poorly?

“I like the look of Eddie Howe – I really do,” continued Campbell. “He has done a fantastic job at Bournemouth, and he is a young manager.

“I think he would get the best out of this Everton squad.”

Campbell could not offer any explanations as to just why Everton are so bad right now, though he claimed the players lacking fight and spirit means they will never be supported by the fans.

“I don’t know if [the players] are confused, but I do know they are not a side the fans are proud of,” added the former striker.

“They were showing signs of progress at the end of last season, but for whatever reason we haven’t seen it this season.

“No matter what happens during a game, Evertonians want their players to be passionate and they want them to fight, and they want their side to scrap. But we are not seeing that at Everton.

“They show some signs of good football, but at the end of the day it shows in the results – and the results just haven’t been good enough.”
