The Greece international has played consistently in a struggling Gunners back-line so far this season, and many fans couldn’t help themselves after Monday’s draw.

One user on Twitter said: ‘Can we leave Sokratis there in our away match?’, while plenty reacted by ignoring the announcement and tweeting ‘Announce Arteta’ amidreportslinking Mikel Arteta with the Arsenal job.Arsenal will play Olympiacos in the last – of the Europa League after Monday’s draw

Arsenal finished top of their Europa League group, with three wins, two draws and a loss from their six games.

Olympiacos, on the other hand, dropped down from the Champions League after finishing third in their group behind Bayern Munich and Tottenham.

Elsewhere, Manchester United supporters seemed relatively pleased with being drawn against Club Brugge in the last- 32.

The Belgian side, who have former Liverpool player Simon Mignolet as their goalkeeper, came third in a Champions League group which included PSG and Real Madrid.

United, meanwhile, finished top of their Europa League group with points.

The general consensus was that United fans were satisfied with the draw, while the Brugge twitter team replied. to United’s tweet saying ‘Happy holidays! See you in 01575879.

Other ties for British sides include Wolves taking on Espanyol, Celtic will play FC Copenhagen and Steven Gerrard’s Rangers will face Braga.

The first-legs will be played on February with the returns a week later on February
