LIVE: Love Island stars give evidence at reality TV investigation – Sky News, Sky.com

Dwayne Davison: “They gave me a taxi fare home as soon as it was done and that was it. I’d been in the studio for 10 hours, 20 minutes after it was over I was sent straight home. The door I’d been kept in was locked, nothing to do, my partner was taken away.”

Dwayne Davison: They don’t want you to go back home. They make you feel like you’re in debt to them. Id’ never stayed in a hotel and they know that you haven’t. A taxi back home would have been a crippler for me.

Dwayne Davison: “Within an hour of that conversation there was a taxi at my door.”

Dwayne Davison says he was 21 and thought his was cheating. “We had no money…I text the show…3 days later we forgot about the argument but then got a phone call.”

The committee is talking about how it is making public record emails that Dwayne Davison has given them

Dwayne Davison and Robert Gregory – who were both show guests are about to give evidence. According to MPs, they claim “the aftercare given to them was not robust and has had a serious negative impact on their lives”

The committee has been investigating the use of lie detector / DNA tests on the show. Jeremy Kyle has been asked to appear before MPs but has so far refused

Next up the committee is looking at The Jeremy Kyle Show which was axed in May following the death of guest Steve Dymond. He died around a week after reportedly failing a lie detector test.

Yewande on life after Love Island: “I didn’t want to have high expectations, so coming out now I’m just dealing with everything that comes with it.”

Marcel on life after love island: “From seeing the people that had done the year before I knew that you’d become a social media figure and do a load of PA’s, that’s more of what I was expecting, but the vastness of what you’re asked to do, you get a lot of benefits.”

Marcel: “Because they don’t want you to be drunk you can get 2 glasses of wine a night but that was the limit…they made a big deal of it being two, just to relax, but that nobody was going to be drunk.”

Yewande is asked about some of the outfits they were given to wear: “If they ever crossed the line and we didn’t want to wear stuff we would have felt comfortable just saying something…but it didn’t happen, we were always really excited.”

Yewande is asked about whether she felt any pressure to look a certain way: “For any holiday you want to look your best…I don’t think there was any huge pressure…its just a personal choice.”

MPs dispute Yewande’s argument – if a substantial number of contestants are being recruited through agents why aren’t we seeing more body diversity?

Asked about lack of body diversity on the show, Yewande says: “I feel like this is a social issue, because of that only certain types of people apply for the show.”

Marcel: “I was the first fully black contestant to appear on the show, as the years have gone on you can see they’ve tried to add more diversity……they’ve definitely made a conscience effort to address that.”

Marcel is asked about racist abuse on twitter. “There will be a lot of times when it comes up in your direct messages, the girl I came off the show with because she was caucasian got sent some vulgar stuff…they’re doing it behind the shield of their phone.”

Marcel says he wasn’t helped with social media at all. “There are a lot of trolls. I didn’t get told how to tweet…there were people with no followers sending racist stuff, I eventually worked out how to block certain words but I did that off my own back.”

Yewande on social media advice producers gave her: “We were given training on how to block people, what we should be careful of putting up…if you had any negative comments they’d tell you how to block words.”

Asked about life after the show, Marcel says: “If you wasn’t doing other shows you were kind of left to your own devices, everyone got their own management. I wouldn’t say there was a big thing of them calling me up saying ‘marce, how are things going?’”

Marcel: “We didn’t have that our year, we had villa producers…” MP’s ask if it’s a fair assessment that there is a marked difference in how different years were treated. Marcel says yes.

Yewande explains how they had welfare checks during lunchtime and dinner. “They became our friends and we felt comfortable speaking to them…as time got on you’d sit down with them and tell them if you felt sh*t”

MPs are asking what the psych-evaluation involved: Y: They were asked how you would you handle not being picked. That’s the kind of conversations. M: Maybe they asked that question to Y because of what happened to me previously…I definitely didn’t get asked that questions!”

Marcel: “But when my year finished the aftercare situation wasn’t as blown up as it is now.”

Marcel: “My year was very different with aftercare to Yewande’s…I think for me doing those pysc-evaluations were needed 6 months down the line…with the stuff that happened to Mike and Sophie [producers] are definitely more aware of their role in supporting people.”

Marcel: “…but doing the show is a massive gift, your life changes for the better, but some negativity comes with it.”

Marcel: “No matter what you do the press will jump onto anything…There was a point where the press would @ me in stories and you literally think it’s the worst period of your life, the trolls add to it.”

Yewande “the downsides are social media and how you manage  with fame and being in the public eye. In my day… I felt I was mentally prepared … but at the end of the day there’s only so much you can do. ”She explains she had psychiatric evaluations before she signed up

Yewande is asked about the contracts she signed before the show and whether she was advised to get impartial legal advice. “I feel like if I’d needed to I would have asked for it…”

Yewande: “I thought it was going to be more intense because you watch it and there’s so much drama… all you do is sit down and gossip really.”

Marcel: “They put in the original cast and then the storyline is the bombshell of who’re you going to pick… who they send in to stir up the pot.” Yewande: “I would say, you create your own storyline.”

Marcel talks about how Johnny on the show was painted as a villain and that storyline didn’t seem fair. “It’s going to effect you, the storyline you get, and whether they edit you as a hero or a villain … I was a hero so I couldn’t really complain.”

Marcel: “[Blazin’ Squad references] kinda got on my nerves a bit but I think in the other edits they did me justice.”

Marcel says producers generally only intervene to try to capture shots to tell storylines more naturally

Yewande: “There were incidents where, if I was having a conversation with someone, a producer would come and say ‘well, if you feel like that, maybe you should be having a conversation about this with someone else ..’.”

Marcel: “I worked for a music publishing company but at the same time I was still doing shows with the Blazin’ Squad… getting the opportunity to the show I jumped at it. ”

As hard as it is to imagine, there is a small corner of parliament where MPs are NOT talking about Brexit (not for a couple of hours at least) – that corner is also known as the Wilson Room where@ (DamianCollins)& co are slated to discuss&

Sophie Gradon took her own life in June 2018. An inquest found she had hanged herself after drinking alcohol and taking cocaine.

Mike Thalassitis’s body was found in a park in Enfield, north London, in March, after police were called to reports of a man found hanged.
