1: 00 am Classes canceled at UC Berkeley:Apower outage at UC Berkeley’s campusprompted school officials to cancel all classes on Thursday, according to UC Berkeley’s Office of Emergency Management. 12: 21 am Outages in Santa Clara County:In the Alum Rock neighborhood of San Jose, more than 4, 00 0 customers were without power Thursday morning, according to PG & E’s outage map. San Jose city officials announced shortly before midnight thatthey were told by PG&E that they cut powerto the Alum Rock area. San Jose also sawoutages in the Almaden and Evergreen neighborhoods, city officials said.In a video statement tweetedout at about 12: 30 am, San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo confirmed that “PG&E shut down power parts of our city, and we’re providing updates and information to all of our residents. ”

                                                                

12: 01 am Law enforcement officers in Contra Costa and Alameda counties respond to outages:Pinole Police Departmentdeployed additional officersto patrol the city soon after PG&E cut power to the Pinole area Wednesday night, officials said. In San Ramon, the police department at 2401 Crow Canyon Road lost power before midnight, according to Capt. Denton Carlson, a San Ramon police spokesman. The department was using backup generators, Carlson said. Officials with the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office said they receivedreports from Oakland residentsthat portions of Oakland were without power before midnight. Further south in Fremont, police officers weredeployed to patrolpotentially impacted areas.

                                                                                                                                 

11: 10 pm National Weather Service warns of strong winds:The weather service’s Bay Area office saidwinds at Mount St. Louis Helenareached 60 mph with gusts of 70 mph, and winds at Mount Diablo reached 54 mph with gusts of 68 mph at 11 pm Wednesday.                                                                 

10: 39 PM Second phase of shutoffs begin:Shutoffs began hitting East Bay and South Bay counties shortly before 11 pm, according to Karly Hernandez, a PG&E spokeswoman. Utility crews will “continue deenergizing through midnight tonight,” Hernandez said.

                                                                

10: 36 pmShutoffs expected to begin in Contra Costa County:Pacific Gas & Electric Co. officials said shutoffs will begin forportions of Contra Costa County“at around 10 pm, ”according to the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office.

                                                                

10: 26 PM Shutoffs for Alameda County delayed until midnight:Pacific Gas & Electric Co. shutoffs for Alameda County have “been moved closer to midnight,” according to the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff’s officials said they were observing “wind increases at higher peaks and elevations.”

                                                                

10: 10 pm Law enforcement officials await the looming shutoffs:Officials with the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office tweeted an image of law enforcement officers and emergency personnel seated around a table in the Alameda County Emergency Operations Center soon after announcing a “shift change” ahead of the planned outages in the Bay Area. They said that they were,“waiting for the power to go outlike many of you” residents, inviting impacted customers to tweet their experiences once shutoffs begin rolling through the region.

                                                                                                                                 

10: 00 PM National Weather Service warns of strong winds:The weather service’s Bay Area office announced thatwinds at Mount Diabloreached 47 mph with gusts of 56 mph shortly before 10 PM Wednesday. “Winds will increase as the night continues,” weather service officials said.

                                                                

8: 59 pm PG&E announces delay in next round of shutoffs for Bay Area:Bay Area shutoffs were delayed for an unknown amount of time on Wednesday night, said Jeff Smith, a PG&E spokesman. Smith said the utility will likely begin Bay Area shutoffs “later this evening,” but did not specify a time. The utility expected to release an update on the changes Wednesday evening.

                                                                

Smith also said that PG&E officials are aware of reports of technical issues on its newly-launched website, and said “we expect to have a new website for customers to access. We’ve been working on a fix. ”

                                                                

8: 19 pm PG & E’s new website is having problems already:Many users attempted to connect say they can’t load the page and are expressing frustrations online.

8: 15 pm PG&E launches new website:PG&Elaunched an alternative websitefor customers to check their address for potential impacts by the planned outages. Utility officials advised customers to access the new website using Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari and Microsoft Edge – not Internet Explorer 11.

                                                                

7: 40 PM National Weather Service warns of strong winds:The weather service’s Bay Area office announced that PG & E’s station located at Mount St. Louis Helenarecorded winds of 43 mph with gusts of 51 mph. Officials said the region will be one of the “indicator sites to watch” as winds are expected to increase overnight into Thursday morning. The area will likely record some of the top winds related to the weather event, officials said.

                                                                                                                                 

7: 34 pm UC Berkeleywill resume classeson Thursday if there is no power outage by early morning:The school said all staff members were expected to report to work if there is no outage, but told managers to be flexible if employees were dealing with outages at home.

                                                                

7: 30 pm Next round of outages to hit between 7 – 10 PM:PG&E said Bay Area communities can expect to lose power between 7 pm and 10 PM

                                                                

7: 26 pm PG&E says a total of 750, 00 0 customers will likely be without power: The total count was reduced by 40 , 00 0 households and businesses from an earlier estimate.
