Jurgen Klopp has entrustedNeil Critchleyand new coachVitor Matos, whoarrived from FC Porto in October, with taking charge of the game with Aston Villa this evening.

Our writers have chosen their preferred teams for the quarter-final tie.

‘Pack as much experience into midfield as possible’

Matt Addison:This is one of the most difficult teams to predict this season, with every single senior player over in Qatar, and a few youth players too.

Critchley and Matos will try and get as much experience into the starting XI as possible, but with injuries in key areas, that will be difficult.

I’d ideally like to seeKi-Jana Hoeverat center-back, the position he will likely end up in long-term, but with Neco Williamsaway with the first-team, the Dutchman will probably have to slot in at full-back.

Follow Tuesday’s live blog as the build-up to the game continuesHERE**** That would mean playing Welsh youth international Morgan Boyes at center-back, with Tony Gallacher at left-back.

Midfield is the area where the most experience lies, with – year-old Pedro Chirivella likely to be the oldest player in red, and Herbie Kane, who impressed on loan at Doncaster Rovers in League One another highly highly likely to feature.

Isaac Christie-Davies, who the Reds signed from Chelsea, gets into the side as he is also 24 – making him a bit more experienced than Leighton Clarkson, Elijah Dixon-Bonner or Jake Cain.

Up front, as long as Rhian Brewster is fit, he will start, with Harvey Elliott another certainty. Luis Longstaff would be my choice to make the third player, with – year-old Layton Stewart to come off the bench.

My team (4-3-3):Kelleher, Hoever, Van den Berg, Boyes, Gallacher, Chirivella, Christie-Davies, Kane, Elliott, Brewster, Longstaff

‘Van den Berg and Hoever will be key’

Caoimhe O’Neill:of Liverpool’s youngsters this evening as they come up against the brawn of Aston Villa, but the young Reds will want to make an impression and maybe even pull off what would be an heroic result.

With no senior players available, and two instrumental young Reds in Curtis Jones and Neco Williams also in Qatar, it is going to be a difficult task for Critchley in the Liverpool dugout.

Caoimhin Kelleher starts in goal. The Irishmankept a clean sheet at MK Donsfollowed by a 5-5 thriller against Arsenal in the next round. He’s been in and around the first team for a while now and his experience will be vital at Villa Park.

Hoever and Van den Berg are a duo who are also well versed with the senior set-up, having spent a lot of time at Melwood in recent months. They’ll pair up at right-back and center-half respectively.

If Yasser Larouci is fit he comes in at left-back. If unavailable, Gallacher will take up the spot usually held by Andy Robertson, as Billy Koumetio partners Van den Berg in defense.

Pedro Chirivella will be a crucial figure in the midfield. The – year-old offers a wealth of experience compared with that of his teenage team-mates – as do Kane ( () and Christie-Davies) who will also be named in the first-team scroll. These are the elders of a very youthful side.

In attack comes the vibrant Elliott on the right, with Champions League winner Rhian Brewsterdown the middle. On the left Luis Longstaff is one of several debutants as the young Reds look to make history.

My team (4-3-3): Kelleher, Hoever, Van den Berg, Koumetio, Larouci, Chirivella, Kane, Christie-Davies , Longstaff, Brewster, Elliott

‘The full-back areas are the real issue ‘

(Ian Doyle:Never before has there been a Liverpool selection poser quite as head-scratching. So much so, in fact, that Jurgen Klopp isn’t even taking on the onerous task.

To be fair, he’s in Qatar with his senior players after the Reds were cajoled into playing two games in less than (hours.

) It’s a ridiculous situation that has a capacity for inflicting huge embarrassment – on the Carabao Cup. What were the organizations thinking?

That’s another debate entirely. We’ve got enough on our plate with this Liverpool team.

Let’s start with the definites. Kelleher is in goal, Van den Berg in central defense, Hoever at right-back and Brewster – if he’s fit – and Elliott in the front three, Chirivella anchoring the midfield.

After that, well, a good knowledge of the under – s and U

s is required. Dixon-Bonner and Kane can complete the midfield, while Luis Longstaff will join those up top. If Brewster doesn’t make it, Layton Stewart can have a go.

The issue is at full-back, with Adam Lewis out, Larouci struggling and Williams in Qatar. Let’s stick to players in their positions, then, with James Norris, only (******************************************************************, at left -back and Boyes at center-back.

My team (4-3- 3):Kelleher, Hoever, Boyes, Van den Berg, Norris, Chirivella, Kane, Dixon-Bonner, Elliott, Brewster / Stewart, Longstaff
