Ian Doyle – ‘Lallana can show his chops as a number six’

All change at Milton Keynes.

Liverpoolopen their League Cup campaign – I refuse to refer to its sponsored moniker – with a first-ever trip to League One side MK Dons.

And I would start with none of the players who lined up at the beginning of thePremier Leaguewin at Chelsea on Sunday.

In goal is Caoimhin Kelleher, given his chance with Adrian wrapped up in cotton wool and Alisson Becker still injured.

The center-back pairing is strong with Dejan Lovren and Joe Gomez. And I want to see Ki-Jana Hoever at right-back, with James Milner reprising his left-back role. Sure he’ll love that.

In midfield, Adam Lallana can show his chops as a number six, withAlex Oxlade-Chamberlainand Naby Keita completing a progressive triumvirate.

Up top is where it gets interesting.

Rhian Brewsterstarts down the middle for his long-awaited debut. To his left is Curtis Jones, who has played in the position for the under – 23 s for some time.

And on the right, Harvey Elliott, a year to the day he made his debut as a 15 – year-old for Fulham.

My team (4-3-3):Kelleher; Hoever, Gomez, Lovren, Milner; Lallana, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Keita; Elliott, Brewster, Jones

Connor Dunn – ‘A chance for many but Keita doesn’t start ‘

Liverpool will be ringing in the changes against MK Dons.

League One opposition in the League Cup gives the Reds a perfect chance to rest some of their big players who have played a lot of football already this season while also handing some young starlets a chance to impress with the senior squad.

And with that, it will be an entire starting XI change for me from the one that lined up against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday .

Caoimhin Kelleher starts in goal, Alisson is continuing to recover from injury and Adrian can rest.

Dejan Lovren and Joe Gomez start in the heart of defense as a very experienced and talented pair while Ki-Jana Hoever comes in at right-back and the talented Adam Lewis enters on the other flank with their being no need to risk either Trent Alexander-Arnold or Andy Robertson.

In the midfield, many would expect Naby Keita to start and while I would undoubtedly bring him on later in the match I won’t be throwing him in from the off to give him a chance to get back into the swing of things .

With that, my midfield three consists of James Milner, Adam Lallana and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as a solid unit both defending and going forward .

At the head of the field Harvey Elliott plays wide right, Curtis Jones out left and the hotly-anticipated Rhian Brewster goes down the middle for a very exciting glimpse into the Reds future.

My team (4-3-3):Kelleher; Hoever, Gomez, Lovren, Lewis; Lallana, Milner, Oxlade-Chamberlain; Elliott, Brewster, Jones

Caoimhe O’Neill – ‘A glimpse into the future with Brewster, Elliott and Jones in front line ‘

Having been knocked out of both domestic trophies at the first time of asking last season, Jurgen Klopp’s side will want to push on past League One outfit MK Dons this evening.

If Alisson had remained fit it is likely this would have been Adrian’s Liverpool bow. But it now presents Caoimhin Kelleher with a massive opportunity as the young Irishman starts in goal.

It will be a Liverpool team strewn with youngsters up front, but Dejan Lovren and Joe Gomez will pick up minutes and be the guiding lights in central defense.

Dutch talent Ki-Jana Hoever starts at right-back with veteran James Milner taking charge on the left flank.

Naby Keita will make his long-awaited return to the Reds midfield and try to kick on alongside Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Adam Lallana who could also do with gaining some momentum.

An exciting and energetic front three will replace the world-beating trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

Liverpool’s front line will offer a glimpse into the future with Harvey Elliott making his full debut on the right of a front three comprised of talented duo Rhian Brewster and Curtis Jones.
