One person has died and at least nine others are injured after a knife attack in the French city of Lyon.
Local media reports have claimed several people were attacked near the Laurent-Bonnevay metro station in the Villeurbanne region, to the east of the city, shortly after 5pm local time (4pm BST).
Of the nine people injured three are believed to have been seriously wounded. The one fatality was a 19-year-old man, reportedly from the nearby Isère region.

One person, who was armed with a knife and a large meat fork, has been arrested following the attack. Video footage from the scene appears to show pedestrians attempting to talk to the man, who threw his weapons to the ground before being apprehended.
Meanwhile police officers and a force helicopter are hunting for at least one other suspect who is at large. The second assailant, who fled the scene, is believed to be in possession of a rotisserie spike.
Some 50 firefighters have attended the scene along with a RAID unit of specialist tactical police. Officers are currently unsure of the motive behind the incident,
Lyon mayor Gerard Collomb said: “I am extremely shocked by the attack that has just occurred in the Lyon area during which one person died and several others injured, some seriously.
“Being nearby, I went immediately to share my support for the victims, transport workers and the police and relief forces.”
Speaking to reporters on the scene, he added: “We have to wait for the conclusions of the investigation. As long as we do not have those conculsions, we can not say anything. We must remain very careful”
A statement on the Police Nationale 69’s twitter account urged residents not to disturb rescue operations, and to limit the spread of false information following the “stabbing attack”.
The nation’s counter-terror office is currently monitoring the situations, but is yet to take charge of the operation.
Several of the city’s metro lines were shut down in the immediate aftermath of the incident.
