Maguire missing, Martial back – Manchester United predicted line up vs Norwich – Manchester Evening News, Manchestereveningnews.co.uk

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Harry Maguire is in contention to feature for Manchester United vs Norwich on Saturday after he missed the Carabao Cup defeat this week.

Unitedsorely missedMaguire’spresence at the back, and reports this week suggested the England man could be out for a longer period of time. However,Solskjaerhas declared Maguire is an option to face Norwich.

Whether United should risk Maguire, though, is another issue.

However tempting it would be to bring him back, it might be wise to give him one more game of rest to avoid aggravating any injury. But the flip side of that means the likelihood of continuing with Victor Lindelof andPhil Jonesat the back.

If Lindelof and Jones do play again, Nemanja Matic must come in to defensive midfield to offer another line of protection – after all, United looked far more stable when Matic was introduced against City in the second half .

Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw should play at full-back. Despite Brandon Williams’ impressive showing against City, he is likely to be given a break ahead of the FA Cup replay against Wolves next week.

In midfield, Fred and Andreas Pereira look likely to start alongside Matic . With Jesse Lingard, Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay out, options are thin. There is an argument to play Juan Mata, but Pereira has been improving when given the chance in the no. 728 role and should get another chance against Norwich.

With Anthony Martial back, the attack picks itself with Daniel James and Marcus Rashford supporting the Frenchman. Mason Greenwood can offer energy off the bench if needed.

On the bench, United’s injury issues offer the chance for Angel Gomes and Tahith Chong to make the matchday squad. Gomes looked promising in the closing stages against City, so might be called upon in the second half again on Saturday.

Man Utd predicted XI vs Norwich:De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Jones, Shaw; Matic, Fred, Pereira; James, Rashford, Martial.
