A TEENAGER suspected of murdering 20 – year-old Keeley Bunker appeared in court this morning.
The 19 – year-old was arrested yesterday after the body of Keeley, 20, was discovered in a park stream in Tamworth, Staffs, shortly after 9pm Thursday.
The young barmaid vanished on her way home from a concert on Wednesday night. Her death has sent shockwaves through the local community.
The unnamed suspect, from Tamworth, was taken to North Staffordshire Justice Center in an unmarked police car today where a magistrate granted officers an additional 36 hours to quiz him over the killing.
He was arrested Friday on suspicion of murdering the 20 – year-old.
Keeley’s heartbroken mum Debbie Watkins launched an appeal on Facebook after she went missing as she returned from watching Brit rapper Aitch perform in Birmingham.
Friends joined other family members in the frantic search for the “beautiful soul” as they scoured surrounding streets in the Leyfields area of the town.
But a heartbroken relative found the barmaid in Wigginton Park close to where she was last seen.
Forensic investigators were pictured at the scene shortly afterwards before Keeley’s body was taken to hospital and a post mortem was ordered.
HAUNTING FINAL TWEET
Music fan Keeley revealed her excitement at seeing Manchester rapper Aitch at the O2 Institute in a heartbreaking final tweet.
She wrote: “Only thing keeping me going is seeing aitch on wednesday, hopefully he’ll see me and we’ll get married xxx”
A tearful relative said: “It has torn the family apart.
“Keeley had just gone on a night out, she was so excited about seeing Aitch and nobody thought they would never see her again.
“The family had spent all day looking for her, and when it got dark, her uncle came round to my house asking if we had any torches for them to use to search the park.
“He looked absolutely broken.
“They all went out to look for her and it was one of the family who actually found the body.
“It’s beyond heartbreaking and I don’t think they will ever get over this.”
Her cousin Sian Phillips wrote on Facebook: “Miss you always love you forever my baby cousin.”
Her aunt Jodie Majer posted some pictures of herself with Keeley on Facebook this morning and wrote: “My beautiful Niece who is more like my little sister !! I love you so much.”
Dozens of friends commented on the post offering their condolences.
HEARTBREAKING
Grieving friends laid flowers at the park where her body was discovered.
One bouquet read: “Keely, sending you all my love, you will be missed by all. Rest well x.”
Another said: “Keeley, I am going to miss you so so much. Your laugh, smiley face and through and through beautiful soul.
“You are going to be missed by everyone lucky enough to have ever met you.
“Miss you already so much, until we meet again, sleep tight.”
Pals had launched an appeal for information after Keeley disappeared on Leyfields housing estate which surrounds the park at 4am on Thursday.
Keeley was believed to have walked home from the rap gig and was last seen at a bus stop just 500 meters from where her body was found.
Her mum Ms Watkins wrote: “Hello has anybody seen Keeley Bunker since early hours of this morning? “Please really worried.
“She went to a concert but hasn’t been seen since she walked home in leyfields abt half 4 this morning.”
Family members searched the park and found her bag on Thursday afternoon.
Police officers and paramedics were called to the scene but Keeley could not be revived.
West Midlands Ambulance Service said they received reports of someone in the water near Edgar Close, Tamworth, and sent two ambulances and a paramedic officer to the scene, but nothing could be done to save her.
Staffordshire Police said in a statement: “A 19 – year-old man has been arrested in connection with her death and is in custody.
“We would kindly ask people not to speculate at this time as our inquiries continue.”
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called by Staffordshire Police to reports of a patient in the water near to Edgar Close, Tamworth at 9. 10 pm last night.
“Two ambulances and a paramedic officer were sent to the scene. On arrival we discovered one patient, a woman.
“Sadly, it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save the woman and she was confirmed dead at the scene.”
