Man, 80, dies during vintage car run between London and Brighton – Sky News, Sky.com


             

An 80 – year-old man has died after taking a wrong turn and ending up on the M 23 during a vintage car run.

The man was driving his 1903 Knox Runabout Old Porcupine during the annual London to Brighton run, but was involved in a collision with a lorry after getting on to the motorway at about 10 am.

He died at the scene. A female passenger was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Surrey Police have informed his next of kin.

A spokesman for South East Coast Ambulance Service told Surrey Live: “We were called to attend this incident at 10. 05 am. We sent two ambulances, as well as Critical Care Paramedics and a number of other resources to attend. The air ambulance also attended.

“At the scene, one patient was unfortunately pronounced as deceased. Our crews treated two other patients, an adult male and female.

“Neither were thought to be in a serious condition and one was taken by air ambulance to St George’s Hospital.”

Bonhams London to Brighton Veteran Car Run, the organisers, confirmed the man was involved in the event and said it was supporting his family.

The M 23 is not part of the route on the London to Brighton car run.
