Man City fans send Benjamin Mendy message to Pep Guardiola for Wolves fixture

Pep Guardiola has been told to play Benjamin Mendy against Wolves as Manchester City embark on their hectic Christmas schedule.

City’s win over Leicester on Saturday was their first of six fixtures in 18 days, and the next clash at Molineux against Wolves will be one of two games they play in just three days – something the club and Pep Guardiola continue to be irritated by.

With two competitive fixtures in so little time, Guardiola will have to rotate his squad fully in the coming week to accommodate for the lack of recovery time. Sergio Aguero is back in training, which is a boost, but John Stones and David Silva remain out – for the Wolves clash at least.

Then, Guardiola has to account for the fitness needs of his available players, with Benjamin Mendy someone who struggles to play twice a week.

In theory, that would mean he may sit out against Wolves, but with the Sheffield United game following, Guardiola might have to ask his left-back to play two games in a row.

And when MEN Sport asked fans who should start at left-back on Friday, Mendy was the overwhelming favourite to continue from his good performance against Leicester.

Of 1,001 fans who voted on Twitter,  72.7 per cent chose Mendy.

22 per cent backed Aleks Zinchenko to play, while just 5.3 per cent wanted to see Angelino start.

After the Sheffield United clash, City have three days to prepare for the visit of Everton before taking on League Two outfit Port Vale three days later.
