Everyone wants a go
After a first-half scare, City are romping to victory now and everyone wants to get in on the act.
That may not please Guardiola but the sight of Cancelo coming on to add to City’s firepower is likely to please poor Gian Piero Gasperini even less
76 ‘- City 5-1 Atalanta
Foden in the book
Phil Foden gets a yellow card for a late foul. Guardiola is not happy.
75 ‘- City 5-1 Atalanta
What a miss!
The Atalanta defense parts to give Raheem Sterling the freedom of the Etihad.
He HAS to score, but places his shot wide.
70 ‘- City 5-1 Atalanta
Cancelo comes on
Benjamin Mendy gets a rest, Joao Cancelo comes in on the left.
Josip Iličić is off for Atalanta, with Hans Hateboer on.
Sterling has a hat-trick!
First Sergio Aguero juggles a ball and nearly has his own hat-trick from the shot, but as the ball comes out, Riyad Mahrez sends a lovely ball over and Raheem Sterling prods home for the hat-trick.

Atalanta goal disallowed
Let off.
Atalanta fire home after the initial shot comes back off the post, but the flag is quickly up for offside.
Meanwhile, Nicolas Otamendi is on for Kevin de Bruyne.
63 ‘- City 4-1 AtalantaKEY EVENT
Sterling grabs another!
Easy as you like. Ilkay Gundogan sends Raheem Sterling through one-on-one with a defender, he checks inside and picks his spot. Game over.
Very clinical.
63 ‘- City 3-1 Atalanta
Ederson double save
Ederson denies Ilicic twice in short succession – not too tricky saves, but they needed to be made.
Kevin de Bruyne is in the book for a stray arm in the face, but he insists there was nothing in it.
61 ‘- City 3-1 AtalantaSimon Bajkowski
City finally find a way through Atalanta
That should be that. Atalanta simply haven’t caused the same problems this half and a two-goal lead will only increase the desperation for the visitors and thus the space in behind them.
57 ‘- City 3-1 AtalantaKEY EVENT
Sterling makes it three!
Typical City goal!
Kevin de Bruyne breaks on the right, checks inside and decides to play in Phil Foden instead of shooting.
Foden could easily put his laces through it, but shifts it to Raheem Sterling who fires into the roof of the net.
54 ‘- City 2-1 Atalanta
De Bruyne has a go
Kevin de Bruyne has a pop and forces the keeper into a save.
That had some power on it.
54 ‘ – City 2-1 Atalanta
Back to his feet
Aguero is back on, looks like he just needed a few second to recover from a strong challenge from behind.
Aguero concern
Sergio Aguero stays down after a strong challenge and Gabriel Jesus is out to warm up.
52 ‘- City 2-1 AtalantaSimon Bajkowski
Mendy much improved
Benjamin Mendy is passing with more freedom tonight.
He last started consecutive games six months ago so it’s only natural he takes time to get back into things but that clipped pass across the box to Stones was a sign that he is becoming more confident on the ball.
50 ‘- City 2-1 Atalanta
Let off
City are caught on the break, but luckily it comes to Josip Iličić, who slows the move down with his first touch and nearly finds the corner flag with his long range shot.
45 ‘- City 2-1 Atalanta
Atalanta double substitution
Andrea Masiello is replaced for Mario Pasalic and Papu Gómez is off for Luis Muriel.
BT Sport commentators tell us those are two attacking changes.

HT – City 2-1 Atalanta
City go in ahead
There’s the half time whistle after two fairly uneventful minutes of injury time.
44 ‘- City 2-1 Atalanta
Walker deni ed
Kyle Walker takes aim from outside the box and the deflected strike requires a good save .
41 ‘- City 2-1 AtalantaSimon Bajkowski
A matter of time
That was always going to be a vulnerable spot for Atalanta.
They conceded two penalties against Lazio at the weekend to fast, direct players going at a slow defense in the box, and Sterling has been a nightmare for them.
40 ‘- City 2-1 Atalanta
Stones comes on
John Stones comes on as Rodri walks off.
Pep Guardiola wasn’t happy with how long it took Stones to get ready when Rodri went down.
39 ‘- City 2-1 Atalanta
Rodri injury concern
Rodri will be off here, he does well to intercept a run into the box but immediately feels his hamstring and goes down.
Another injury blow for City.
38 ‘- City 2-1 AtalantaKEY EVENT
Aguero converts
No mistake.
Keeper guesses the right way, but the strike is firmly into the bottom corner.
37 ‘- City 1-1 Atalanta
Penalty City!
Sterling brought down.
35 ‘- City 1-1 AtalantaSimon Bajkowski
A good response
City had just been putting together their most incisive football before that Atalanta breakaway.
It’s a credit to them that they were able to refocus so quickly and score what was a lovely team goal.
32 ‘ – City 1-1 AtalantaKEY EVENT
Aguero equalises!
He converts Sterling’s chipped cross from close range.
30 ‘- City 0-1 AtalantaStuart Brennan
Inevitable penalty
And there we saw the problem with having midfielders playing as center backs – great when in possession, but not so good when forced to do some actual defending.
Fernandinho has done that before, when not playing as a defender, and of course gave a penalty away at Schalke last year, as well.
27 ‘- City 0-1 Atalanta(KEY EVENT)
Scored
Ruslan Malinovskiy sends Ederson the wrong way.
25 ‘- City 0-0 Atalanta
Penalty to Atalanta!
Fernandinho penalized!
Josip Iličić was advancing into the box, drops the shoulder and forces Fernandinho to leave a leg dangling right in the corner of the box. Clumsy.
