Man City vs Chelsea LIVE highlights and reaction sublime Mahrez goal keeps Liverpool FC chase alive – Manchester Evening News, Google News

Manchester City have kept pace with the Premier League leaders with a crucial win against Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium.

Both teams started brightly with chances at both ends but it was the visitors who took the lead through N’Golo Kante. The Frenchman managed to squeeze the ball past Ederson. City found their equaliser through Kevin De Bruyne via a massive deflection.

Rodri and Silva both left the field after looking uncomfortable but didn’t go straight down the tunnel for treatment. Sergio Aguero also hobbled off the field to be replaced by Jesus.

Lampard gives his thoughts on the game

He spoke to Match of the Day after the game:

“We were controlling the game, we were playing some great stuff and we felt i n control but you can’t be absolutely in control against Manchester City

“It was bad luck for their first goal, and absolute quality from Riyad Mahrez for the second and that changed the game.

“Maybe we were a bit slow with our movement at the back, I know we were giving them a good game but I am disappointed with the small details.

“ If you look at City they are an example, and we’re at the absolute start of that process. A few of our players were in the Championship, but we want more. ”

VERDICT: Man City send Liverpool FC a title fight message with a touch of genius and a lot of willpower

Manchester City were star ing down the barrel of a 12 – point gap at the top of the Premier League.

Having seen Liverpool secure yet another win, at Crystal Palace, in an early kick off, the Blues then showed all their burgeoning defensive frailties to fall behind to an N’Golo Kante goal.

But they also showed that sheer force of will, in the shape of the insistentKevin De Bruyne, and a touch of utter genius, from the erratically excellentRiyad Mahrez, can keep them in the hunt.

They are not exactly clinging on to Liverpool’s coat-tails at the moment, but at least they prevented Jurgen Klopp’s men from disappearing over the horizon in a cloud of dust.
