Former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey reckons Manchester United should prioritize the signing of James Maddison instead of Jack Grealish.

Aston Villacaptain Grealish has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this month, with Leicester City’s Maddison also said to be a target for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

Grealish and Maddison are key playmakers for their side, with the former spearheading Villa’s charge to avoid an immediate relegation back to the Championship.

Twenty-four-year-old Grealish has scored eight times in all competitions this seasonwhile assisting six goals despite having missed five games.

He is an integral part ofDean Smith‘s squad and was excellent in the club’s previous Premier League fixture at Burnley, where Villa won 2-1 with Grealish on the scoresheet.

However, despite his obvious talent Heskey reckons Maddison should be above Grealish on the Red Devils’ list of possible targets.

Maddison, unlike Grealish, is an England international and has himself been involved in 90 goals this campaign scoring nine times.

“With what Man United need, I would say they probably need Maddison more,” Heskey told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“Someone who’s going to get on the ball and dictate, they haven’t really got that at the minute.

“ But again they need Grealish as well because they haven’t got anyone who can drive with the ball in the midfield.

“Years ago you used to have players, especially in the Man United team, that would just drive with the ball through the midfield, take people on.

“They haven’t got that right now but they definitely need someone who can take the game by the scruff of the neck and that’s Maddison. ”
