Man Utd 2-2 Aston Villa LIVE score: Team news, TV channel and live stream – Mirror.co.uk, Mirror.co.uk

Manchester United’s hopes of closing the gap to the top four suffered a blow as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Aston Villa at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils fell behind early but fought back to take a 2-1 lead before Tyrone Mings leveled to give Dean Smith’s share of the points.

In an open start to the match, Villa took the lead in the 11 th minute when captain Jack Grealish cut in from the left before curling a wonderful effort beyond David De Gea into the top corner.

The hosts were far from their best during the first half but managed to get back on level turns thanks to an own goal from goalkeeper Tom Heaton just before the break.

There was little the England stopper could do as Marcus Rashford’s glancing header from a pinpoint Andreas Pereira cross came off the post before deflecting in off his back.

That goal seemed to give Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side a much-needed boost heading into half-time and they looked a different team when they returned from the interval.

After providing limited threat to Heaton’s goal during the first 45 minutes, United forced the Villa keeper into a couple of smart stops from the likes of Anthony Martial and Aaron Wan -Bissaka.

And they took the lead with in the 64 th minute when Victor Lindelof headed in at the back post after being found by Fred’s in-swinging delivery.

Their lead didn’t last long though, as Villa hit back almost instantly through Tyrone Mings.

Matt Targett ‘ s cross found the England defender unmarked in the area and he volleyed past De Gea while United’s players appealed for offside.

VAR checked the decision but ruled it a goal, with Brandon Williams playing the Villa man onside .

Although both sides continued to create openings, neither side was able to find a winner before the final whistle.

Victory could have put United within six points of fourth -placed Chelsea, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s are still eight points off the Champions League places as they moved up to ninth.

Meanwhile, Villa remain three points behind the Red Devils but are still in danger of being sucked into the relegation battle, with third-from-bottom Southampton just three points behind.

Man Utd XI:De Gea, Wan Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Williams Andreas Pereira, Fred, James, Mata, Rashford, Martial.

Aston Villa XI:Heaton, Guilbert, Konsa, Mings, Targett, McGinn, Douglas Luiz, Hourihane, El Ghazi, Wesley, Grealish.
