Man Utd team news: Predicted XI for Liverpool showdown with De Gea injured – Express, Express.co.uk

Manchester Unitedwill renew their bitter rivalry with Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.

The Red Devils travel to Anfield in the midst of a torrid run of form, which has seen them fail to win their last three matches.

In stark contrast to their eternal rivals, runaway Premier League leaders Liverpool enter the match having won all eight of their league fixtures so far.

The trip to Merseyside will provide United with the toughest test of their season so far; one they’ll have to pass without their first-team goalkeeperDavid de Gea.

The 28 – year-old suffered a suspected hamstring injury in Spain’s Euro 2020 qualifier against Sweden in Stockholm on Wednesday night.

De Gea appeared to injure himself on the hour mark as he cleared a bacK-pass, which led to his immediate substitution.

Although the full extent of the Spaniard’s injury isn’t known, Argentina international Sergio Romero is expected to deputise for the former Atletico Madrid man.

It’s not all doom and gloom for United, though, as Solskjaer is expected to be boosted by the returns of three first-team stars.

Paul Pogba, Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are all in line to return to the fold following their respective recoveries from foot and hamstring injuries and illness.

France international Anthony Martial has also returned to full training following his recovery from a thigh injury but is likely to be handed a place on the bench.

Manchester United predicted starting XI to face Liverpool (4-2-3-1):Romero; Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Tuanzebe, Shaw; Fred, McTominay, Pogba, Pereira, James; Rashford.

United’s last outing before the international break saw them suffer a 1-0 loss at the hands of relegation battlers Newcastle United.

Solskjaer lamented his troops’ lack of creativity after the match, saying: “We’re disappointed. We did lack quite a few key players but that’s no excuse.

“The players worked hard and ran their socks off but at the moment we’re in a place we’re not used to.

“Some of the boys lack a little bit of composure and we don’t create enough chances to win a game of football. They stay together as a team but we don’t create.

“Luckily for us, it’s now the international break. We get time to evaluate what’s gone on over these eight games.

“We will sit down, hopefully, we’ll get a few players back.

“It’s my responsibility. I need to sort their heads out. Young boys lacking confidence – they need some help from experienced players and staff.

“They’re human and they want to do well.

“They need to see the results of their hard work and we’re not getting those results so that’s going to affect them.”
