Goodison return for Dave Thomas
Much loved former Everton winger Dave Thomas has claimed an unwanted first writes Dave Prentice.
The man whose laser guided crosses helped Bob Latchford claim a £ 10, 000 national newspaper prize for becoming the first striker in English football to score 30 league goals for six years in 1978, is the first England international to be registered blind and awarded a guide dog.
But with the help of labrador Hannah he retains a positive mindset and will be back at Goodison Park on Saturday.
Dave will be visiting the Everton Heritage Society at St Luke’s Church before the Manchester City match from approximately 3. 30 pm to 5pm to sell and sign copies of his autobiography Guiding Me Home and Away, published by

S porting appoint new coach
Just as Marco Silva was laughing off reports from Portugal that he’d been approached by his former club, Sporting were appointing a new boss anyway.
Guardiola: Goodison always tough
Marco Silva’s opposite number Pep Guardiola has also been previewing tomorrow evening’s game at Goodison Park.
Key points from Silva press conference
- No change on the injury front with Andre Gomes hoping to step up his recovery next week.
- Silva pleased with Djibril Sidibe who is giving Seamus Coleman “a good fight” for the right-back spot but he ‘ll demand more from him.
- He’s not happy with the league position but says it’s too early to panic.
Laughs off reports from Portugal that he’s been approached by former club Sporting.
We want this type of challenge
Silva says: “It will be a big challenge for us but we want this type of challenge.”
Blues must believe
Silva says Everton must be solid and believe in themselves.
Silva calls on Blues to be more ruthless
SIlva says: “We need to be clinical, ruthless in both boxes because if you do that, for sure the results will improve again . ”
Nothing in Sporting links
Marco Silva laughs when asked about reports from Portugal claiming he had been approached by his former club Sporting and says: “It is new to me.”
Two up front?
Asked if he’ll play with two players up front, Silva cites the last home game when he played with two strikers for almost 40 minutes but created fewer chance s than when he had one.
City challenge
Marco speaks of the challenge to try and get a result tomorrow.
Silva not happy with league position
Asked if 14 th place is under-achieving, Silva says : “Of course I am not happy.”
Silva not happy with goals conceded
A ‘good fight’ at right-back

Marco at 1: (PM)
Sorry for the lack of updates but we’ve had some IT issues here.
They’ve been resolved now and we’ve got Marco Silva coming up for his pre-match press conference ahead of Manchester City’s visit to Goodison Park tomorrow.
What’s happened to Tom Davies?
That’s what Charlie Nicholas wants to know with the Scot puzzled as to why Everton manager Marco Silva seems hesitant to use the home-grown hero he handed the captain’s armband to on occasions last season.
Davies had his first start of the campaign at Sheffield Wednesday and Nicholastold Sky Sports (**************:
“What is Silva’s goal? If they concede first, what are they going to do?
“And what happened to Tom Davies? He is on the bench but isn’t close to the first team. ”
Blues’ don’t seem to be able to put teams away ‘
So says Mark Lawrenson in hisPremier League predictions colum n for the BBC.
The former Liverpool defender said ahead of Everton’s home game against reigning champions Manchester City:
It is fair to say that the natives will be restless after seeing Everton beaten at Goodison Park by Sheffield United last week, and Manchester City will obviously offer an even tougher test.
That could help them, because they will raise their game against City – but if they end up losing heavily, then Toffees boss Marco Silva is going to get some grief.
Silva’s problem is that his side are neat and tidy and play some decent stuff on their day, but they do not seem able to put teams away.
I look at Everton and wonder exactly what they are trying to do, and I think most of their supporters feel the same way.
I can only see a City win here (he goes for 2-0); they are just too good.
Yes, Dominic Calvert-Lewin might cause them a few problems in the air and, defensively, they are going to be under more pressure than they were against Watford last week – but they should still be able to cope.
Party like it’s 1999
On this day in 1999, K evin Campbell’s goal gave Everton a 1-0 win at Anfield.
Although that was a great victory for Walter Smith’s side, the fact that they’ve now gone another 20 years without tasting victory across Stanley Park is no cause for celebration for Blues.
Hornby off the mark in Belgium
Everton’s Fraser Hornby is off the mark on his loan spell at Belgian club Kortrijk.
The West Flande rs outfit, nicknamed De Kerels (The Guys), won 3-1 in the Beker van Belgie (Belgian Cup) at third tier RFC Seraing.
Blues explain why Charsley was handed a new deal
Everton felt handing Harry Charsley a short-term contract was the ‘right thing to do’ following a serious back inj ury sustained by the 22 – year-old last season writes Sam Carroll.
Charsley, who has lifted titles with both the under – 18 and under – 23 set-up at Goodison Park, was initially set for release after more than a decade with his boyhood club.
David Unsworthtold the ECHO (**************:
“I ‘ve seen a bit of press about it recently.
“Harry’s been with us since he was five or six . He got injured towards the end of the season and it was a real serious injury, a stress fracture of his back.
“What we didn’t want to do and what we don’t do at this club is chuck kids to the side and not look after them. He couldn’t do anything for three or four months and we have an obligation to look after the player.
“We felt it was the right decision to give him a contract until January to get fit and stay fit. We’re on smaller numbers than we have been over the last couple of years so there’s an opportunity to increase his profile and get himself a club in January. ”
Has Pickford’s career stalled?
I must say from personal experience, I found Jordan Pickford to be one of Everton’s heroes while at Hillsborough on Tuesday for the Blues Carabao Cup tie as the keeper made some saves at crucial moments to ensure the visitors would ultimately record a solid 2-0 win rather than be on the end of an upset against as Sheffield Wednesday side that had made eight changes from the weekend.
However, in a wide-ranging analysis of Everton’s season,Sky Sports’ Ben Grounds, who also cites “a midfield struggling for balance without Gueye ”,“ a lack of leadership at the heart of set-piece issues ”,“ Silva’s scattergun approach to finding goals ”and asks“ Is it time to drop Sigurdsson? ”has questioned whether Pickford’s career has stalled.
He writes:
The England No 1 will not be proud of his record of conceding the most number of goals from set-pieces since the start of last season.
He failed to show any command of his area as he lost the flight of Oliver Norwood’s wicked corner in the sun for the Blades’ opener, while Bournemouth’s crucial second goal in the 3-1 defeat at the Vitality Stadium came from another set-piece where the Everton goalkeeper did not cover himself in glory.
Lys Mousset’s composed finish for the Blades bore similarities to Wesley’s opener for Aston Villa in Everton’s first league loss of the campaign, with Pickford slow to come from his line.
Jonas Lossl was signed in the summer on a free transfer despite Everton already having Maarten Stekelenburg as deputy, indicating that those within the club already felt more pressure was needed on their first-choice stopper.
His Everton career has been a tale of peaks and troughs but, now aged 25, far greater consistency will be demanded from a player who has set such high standards.

Duo missing from photo
With Everton revealing their official first team photograph for the 2019 / 20 season, some eagle-eyed Blues observed that out-of-favor duo Oumar Niasse and Cuco Martina are both missing.
The pair – who were loaned out to Cardiff City and Stoke City / Feyenoord respectively last season are both surplus to requirements but the club were unable to offload either of them over the summer.
Both are included among the first team squad list on the club’s official website complete with squad numbers of 29 for Niasse and 30 for Martina but did not feature alongside their team-mates on the picture.
Senegal international Niasse is reported to have previously suffered the ignominy of not being granted a first team locker during Ronald Koeman’s reign.
Chris Beesley
Everton are willing to sell Cenk Tosun at a major loss but will have to wait until the January window after a potential transfer avenue closed, claim Football Insider.
The ECHO has already reported that the Blues were prepared to offload Sam Allardyce’s first signing as Blues boss this summer but the Turkish international opted to stay at Goodison Park.
Everton chiefs are now supposedly ready to accept offers of £ 15 million for the player they paid Besiktas £ 27 million for in January 2018.
The article states that this development comes after Tosun reportedly snubbed a move to Qatari club Al Gharafa before their transfer window shuts at the end of this month and that the player’s family is settled on Merseyside with the 28 – year-old willing to fight for his place in Marco Silva’s side even though Kean and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are ahead of him in the spearhead pecking order.

When director of football Marcel Brands picked up the phone to his counterpart at Manchester City, Txiki Begiristain, the initial response was not particularly encouraging.
For those at Everton who had experienced the two previous attempts at signing Fabian Delph, it will have felt like a case of history repeating itself.
It wa s March, and after identifying the experienced midfielder as a prime transfer target, Brands was keen to get the ball rolling on a move that, he hoped, would fly under the radar – but Pep Guardiola was not ready to make a decision on Delph’s future .
