Thursday night’s NFL game between the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers wasn’t exactly must-see-TV. So, many fans may have missed all of the drama at the end of the game. What drama? Oh, only Myles Garrett ripping Mason Rudolph’s helmet off and hitting him on the head with it.

That’s all.

Suspensions have already been handed down, and Garrett has received an indefinite suspension for the year. But the trouble may not end there for him. Rudolph’s reps have stated that they are going to review the incident and possibly seek legal action against Garrett.

However, doing so would be a huge mistake on Rudolph’s part. Right now, he’s a victim. But if he tries to push the issue further, the ugly truth is going to come out and be plastered and scrutinized by every media outlet in the country.

The Ugly Truth

There is no defense for Garrett, and he will be the first to tell you that. He has been contrite since the incident. He has received fines foron-field behaviorin the past. But something of this nature is not in his character. However, there is still no excuse for it, and he deservesthe suspensionthat the NFL has handed down.

However, in a court case, every last sordid detail of the incident is going to come to light, and Mason Rudolph is far from a victim.

One ESPN reportertried to make it sound like racism might have played a part, but there has been no indication that Rudolph said anything inappropriate yet. But Rudolph should be credited with starting the fight when he tried to rip Garrett’s helmet off first — and he nearly succeeded.

That, however, is not the worst thing he did prior to Garrett taking his fateful swing. Rudolph kicked Garrett in that place no guy should ever get kicked and then charges after Garrett and hits him in that same place while Garrett is holding Rudolph’s helmet.

What guy on the planet is not going to react in the same way after getting hit not once but twice below the belt?

Let It Go, Mason Rudolph

Garrett is wrong for his part in the whole mess. But Rudolph is skating free right now because everyone is looking at him as the victim. In reality, he is just as much to blame for the whole sordid affair as Garrett.

Rudolph needs to follow some very sage advice made famous by a Disney character but Introduced here by Kristen Bell and Jimmy Fallon:

If he doesn’t, he will become just as much of a villain as Garrett.
