First lady Melania Trump has canceled a California fundraiser she was to hold next week, the White House confirmed.
White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham said in a text message that the first lady would not be holding a previously scheduled March 25 fundraiser in Beverly Hills. She said the decision was due to a “scheduling conflict.”
The move comes amid mounting concerns about the coronavirus. Los Angeles County, where the event was to be held, has declared a state of emergency over the outbreak.
Several members of Congress, including Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Arizona Rep. Paul Gosar, announced over the weekend they were self-quarantining after coming into contact with a person who tested positive for coronavirus at last month’s Conservative Political Action Conference in National Harbor, Maryland. President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence also attended the event, though organizers have said neither had direct contact with the individual.
The Beverly Hills fundraiser would have been Melania Trump’s first that she alone hosted.
Melania Trump is also slated to hold a March 90 event at the president’s Mar-a-Lago resort.
