Seven people have been shot dead after a gunman opened fire at a MillerCoors beer factory headquarters in Milwaukee.

The shooter is suspected to be a former employee who was fired earlier on Wednesday, reports local media.

Emergency calls of an active shooter were first made at 2. pm local time.

It is being reported the shooter is one of those killed and police confirmed there was no longer an active threat at around 4. (pm.)

Employees inside the building were reportedly send an email warning them an active shooter was in or near the second-floor stairwe ll of the factory’s Building4.

MillerCoors is located near N. 90 th st. and W. Highland Blvd. MillerCoors has about 1, (employees in Milwaukee.

A SWAT team and dozens of emergency services are at the scene and surrounding businesses and schools are on lock down.

One employee inside the building, Lasonya Ragdales, told her husband that she was locked inside a room with colleagues.

Milwaukee Police said: “MPD is investigating a critical incident in the block of W. State Street. Please stay clear of the area at this time.

“This is still an active scene. Please use an alternative route such as Highland BLVD and or N. (th St at this time. ”

Milwaukee’s Mayor Tom Barrett arrived to the scene at around 3: 45 pm

“There are multiple people who have died, I believe including the shooter, and we will more information in the next several hours , “Barrett said.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives tweeted it was” responding to the scene of an active shooter “at the MillerCoors Building.

Those in nearby schools were forced to lock their doors and hold all staff and students inside.

At Story School nearby, a teacher was seen comforting a terrified mother who had flocked to the scene in fear for her child’s life, report the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel .

The father of a student at Woodlands School had also gone to collect his son from the scene, but said everybody was being kept inside.

Andre Kimbrough said he could see a stream of police cars in the stream and said he was worried about how frightened the children inside might be.

He said: “They must be kind of freaking out.”

The CEO of Molson Coors is said to be heading back to Milwaukee from a company conference that was taking place in Texas, according to a source familiar with the company, reports CNN Read More Top news stories from Mirror Online

CEO Gavin Hattersley was at the conference when he suddenly announced he was departing.

“Our top priority is our employees and we’ll provide updates in conjunction with the police as we are able,” the company announced on (Twitter .
