MLB rumors: Mets’ Carlos Beltran stepping down as manager due to Astros cheating scandal? – NJ.com, Nj.com

A Twitter account claiming to belong to the niece ofCarlos Beltrantweeted that theMetsmanager is stepping down from his position on Wednesday afternoon.

The account has since gone private, but screenshots are abound on Twitter, including by former pitcher turnedBarstool Sports baseball writer Dallas Braden.

“My Tio Carlos is stepping down as Mets manager, ”The tweet read.

Braden claims the same account broke the news that Beltran was going to be the Mets manager days before it was announced. Screenshots of those tweets can be found in thisBarstool Sportsarticle, which shows three tweets saying Beltran was named Mets manager on October 29, three days before it was official on November 1.

Beltran was the only player named inMLB Commissioner Rob Manfried’s report on the Houston Astros cheating scandalduring their (World Series championship run.

Could this be the Mets’ solution to the controversy? It would match up with how the Red Sox dealt with managerAlex Cora, where both sides “parted ways” on Tuesday.

It does go in line with earlier reports from ESPN’s Buster Olney of the Mets “wavering” on Beltran.

Either way, SNY’s Andy Martino reports that news on Beltran “one way or another” could come on Wednesday.

For any additional context on the Twitter account allegedly belonging to Beltran’s niece, there are screenshots of tweets from that account trashing ex – YankeeMark Teixeira, who said the Mets “have to fire” Beltran in an appearance on ESPN’s “Get Up ”on Wednesday morning.

“I don’t think the Mets have a choice, either. They have to fire

“The only reason Beltran was punished as a bigger part of this was because of that immunity … it’s really a loophole for Carlos Beltran because he retired immediately after that World Series.”

“Now this is a guy who, him and

Alex Cora

were the main culprits. Alex Cora got fired on the spot by the Boston Red Sox, ”Teixeira said. “The New York Mets are in an impossible situation. There’s no way Carlos Beltran – especially in the pressure cooker of New York – there’s no way he can be the manager of the Mets.

“So I think it’s a tough spot for (general manager) Brodie Van Wagenen and the Mets front office that, here we spent all this time trying to find our guy, a really great baseball mind , and Beltran is that. He’s also a guy who cheated in the worst possible way during a World Series run. You cannot have that guy lead your team. The New York papers … will eat up Carlos Beltran every single day until he’s fired. ”

The account also claimed that Mets ownership promised they were going to offer free agent third baseman Anthony Rendon “big $$$$. “

Rendon ended up signing a seven-year, $ million contract with the Los Angeles Angels.
