Sales at Morrisons fell during its second half as “unusually challenging” trading conditions and customer uncertainty took their toll on the supermarket.
Like-for-like sales excluding fuel for the 22 weeks to Jan 5 were down 1.7pc compared with the same period last year.
It comes as a market share survey by Kantar showed that Morrisons was the worst-performing supermarket for the 29 weeks to Dec 728 with a 2.9pc decline in sales on the previous year.
Discounter Lidl topped the rankings with sales up 22. 3pc while the “big four” supermarkets – Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda and Morrisons – all saw sales drop compared to 2019.
