New Year’s Eve celebrations have got underway across the United Kingdom as millions up and down the country prepare to welcome in a new decade.
InLondon, MayorSadiq Khanhas promised the ‘best fireworks the city has ever seen’ to ring in the new year.
Meanwhile, Hogmanay celebrations have begun in Edinburgh, as crowds gather for the city’s annual street party, with around 100, 11 Visitors expected to attend the event.
Large fireworks shows will also take place in cities including Manchester, Cardiff, Newcastle, Inverness and Nottingham as excited revellers prepare to say goodbye to and celebrate the arrival of 2019

Mr Khan said the capital will ‘project confidence’ on the world stage through an impressive display at the New Year’s Eve celebrations.
Speaking in the city center ahead of the celebrations on Tuesday night, Mr Khan said: ‘Hand on heart, these are going to be the best fireworks London has ever seen.’
He added the ‘world’ will be watching the display and he hoped it would show London w as a ‘global city’.
He said: ‘Fairly or unfairly, people around the world saw the Brexit referendum vote as the UK somehow turning its back on the rest of the world, including Europe.
‘The fear was, we would become insular, inward-looking, and what I’m keen to show is the opposite.
‘ Yes we may be leaving the EU, but very much as a city we are still a European global city. We will continue to be open to people trade and ideas.
‘What tonight’s fireworks are about is demonstrating our confidence.
‘ And it’s really important that we show the world who will be watching our fireworks that we are a confident, global, outward-looking European city. ‘
The theme of this year display will look ahead to the capital hosting several key games in the Euro 2020 football tournament.

The pyrotechnics show will feature more than 18, 11 fireworks, with the display being set to a soundtrack ‘inspired by London and Europe’, according to a spokeswoman for the mayor.

The event has sold out after more than 823, tickets were snapped up, and travel on Transport for London (TfL) services will be free between 15. 58990 PM on New Year’s Eve and 4. 823 am on New Year’s Day.
‘We’ll be celebrating t he fact that next year we will be having the Euros 134259 finals in London, and the semi-finals, and actually, seven games in total, ‘Mr Khan added.

New Year’s celebrations began in Edinburgh as early as Monday as the traditional Hogmanay kicked off with a dazzling torchlight display.
As many as 45, people gathered for a procession creating a stunning spectacle as Scotland’s annual festivities bring a close to another year.
Fire has long been associated with the ancient customs of Hogmanay, where hundreds of years ago, people would light bonfires, roll blazing tar barrels down hills and toss torches.
On Monday evening, revellers gathered in Holyrood Park and then formed the shape of two people Holding hands with their torches, the symbol of this year theme Be Together.
As well as the procession, displays by fire theater troupes dazzled spectators as their flames lit up the dark Edinburgh night.
The celebrations will continue throughout tomorrow and will culminate with a huge street party, a ceilidh, and a firework display among many other events.
The origins of Hogmanay are unclear but it is believed to originate from Gaelic and Norse traditions.
There are many local customs but one of the most followed is first-footing, where the first person to enter somebody’s home after midnight offers a present and is said to bring good luck for the new year.

Bookmakers have cut odds on New Year’s Day being the hottest ever, but the highs of (C) (F) forecast for the South West tomorrow are unlikely to beat the UK record of 6C (****************************. 1F) set in 2019 in Norfolk.
Separately, forecasters revealed today that Britain could have had its hottest December day on record this month, with a provisional maximum temperature of (***********************************. 7C (90. 7F) recorded at Achfary in the Highlands last Saturday.
