Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed Manchester United will not be holding a pre-match video session ahead of the Manchester derby – given their familiarity with opponents Manchester City .

United ordinarily watch footage of their opponents in the hours leading up to a match, but Solskjaer insists his side will be ready for any tactical changes City employ without studying the tape.

“There’s not going to be any video [session] on Friday or Saturday because we’ve played them so many times, “Solskjaer explained. “I think it helps.

” We want to play. My team is still developing, our team is still developing and you want to play against the best.

“We need to learn and they’ve been the best the last few seasons. For us it’s a great challenge.

Solskjaer’s men won’t watch video of City

“I’m sure we have an element of surprise, that’s not an issue. So has he [Pep Guardiola]. Everyone has watched Man City quite a few times and we have to be ready for whatever they throw at us. “

Both sides go into the game on the back of victories in the FA Cup as they each saw off Championship opposition.

City overcame Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 at Hillsborough while United prevailed 3-0 over Derby at Pride Park.

United are points adrift of their local rivals ahead of the clash at Old Trafford, and Solskjaer insists the scheduling of the match has been ‘unfair’.

“There’s a derby on Sunday and we’ve got to play Thursday night. What is the point in that? That doesn’t level the playing field.

“Those hours are important and we’ve got to be good at recovering now . ”
