H ) arriet Alexander has been talking to Sandy Powell , the British costume designer nominated for the (th time – this year, for The Irishman.) She writes:

I bumped into the fabulous Sandy Powell at the British consul’s party on Friday night, held to celebrate British nominees.

She told me she’s going to wear the now-infamous white trouser suit, which she has been asking fellow nominees and Hollywood friends to sign over the past few weeks. The suit will then be auctioned off to raise money to preserve the cottage owned by director and set designer Derek Jarman, in Dungness, Kent.

“Derek was the first director I worked with, so this is really personal to me,” she said.

“It’s been great fun getting everyone involved in this campaign. Elle Fanning was the first to sign, and it’s mushroomed ever since.

“Wearing it to the awards is great to raise awareness – and it saves me from having to decide what to wear!”
