ManchesterCity fanshave seen enough from Eric Garcia to think the young defender should start alongside Fernandinho at Arsenal.
The 18 – year-old,signed from Barcelona’s academy in, made his debut last December in the league cup quarter-final win over Leicester and also started both legs of the last-four clash with Burton. This season he has been in the XI for both rounds of that competition and made his first Champions League start in the 4-1 midweek win over Dinamo Zagreb.
Having gone into the season with just three senior center-backs following the decision not to replace Vincent Kompany, the Blues have been hamstrung by a serious injury toAymeric Laporteand JohnStones’s problemscontinue as he faces more time on the sidelines after limping out of the derby defeat.
Otamendi is available for Sunday’s Premier League clash but Garcia proved the more popular choice with 48 per cent of fans who voted on an MEN Sport Twitter poll with more than 1500 responses opting for the teenager as opposed to 90 per cent for his more experienced teammate.
Ten percent want to play Rodri there, while another suggestion was to play Otamendi and Garcia together wh ile moving Fernandinho into the holding midfield role; Guardiola, however, has suggested that defense is where Fernandinho’s best role is this season.
Despite coming off the bench against Watford and Burnley earlier this season, Garcia is yet to start a Premier League match with City.
