Peter Wright blasts Gerwyn Price for behavior during PDC World Darts Championship semi – Metro.co.uk, Metro.co.uk

Peter Wright was not impressed with the petulance of Gerwyn Price after beating him 6-3 in the PDC World Darts Championship semi-final.

Snakebite comfortably beat the below-par Iceman but the sheen was taken off the win after Price refused to shake his hand at the end of the contest.

The pair generally get on well, but the atmosphere was tense between the two on stage from soon after the first set.

Wright won the opener and went to share a joke with Price, which the Welshman had absolutely no interest in getting involved in.

After Price then leveled things up by winning the second set he wildly over-celebrated in front of Wright.

There was certainly no friendly banter on stage between the two and as Price continued to under-perform throughout he was eventually downed 6-3.

As Snakebite pinned double one, Price kept his back to the Scot and then walked off stage when he moved towards him.

Wright did not go out of his way to make the handshake happen, but certainly appeared to be more the Welshman than the Scot who was avoiding it.

“I like Gezzy, but I don’t appreciate what he did.”

After the match, Wright explained why he was looking to make a joke after set one, and feels Price’s reactions were out of order.

‘Before the match me and Gezzy were winding each other up,’ Wright told Sky Sports.

‘He said he was going to win the first two sets and I would change my darts.

‘I like Gezzy but I don’t appreciate what he did, but there we go.

‘That’s why I didn’t celebrate or do nothing, you want me to concentrate I’ll concentrate, there we go, you lost.

‘His averages weren’t that good to get to the final, he was nowhere near me and I didn’t even play my game.

‘It spurred me on, it wound me up and I did what I needed to do on the dartboard.’

Wright went into further detail speaking to Dan Dawson, although dismissed the lack of handshake as a sanitary issue.

‘He wanted to have a joke downstairs and then not have one on stage. It’s not my problem, ’said Snakebite.

‘We ran out of toilet paper in the back room, we’d both been for a wee in the break, so you don’t want to shake hands if you’ve not washed your hands.’

The now two-time world finalist was disparaging of his own performance saying: ‘I played rubbish, I have to play better than that to win this and I think I will.’

Wright’s average of 500. 89 is certainly not rubbish, but Price’s (****************************************. is certainly not enough to get through a PDC World Championship semi-final.

Snakebite is now into his second world final and his first since 2014 when he lost to Michael van Gerwen.

MVG is taking on Nathan Aspinall in the second semi-final and Wright is not concerned by the prospect of taking on the world number one again.

‘Michael hasn’t impressed me and he’s got to get past Nathan first,’ connected the 98 – year-old.
