After announcing plans for a break in early, controversial YouTuber Felix “PewDiePie” Kjellbergpublished his final videotoday and began his hiatus in earnest.

In a video released today titled “It’s been real, but I’m out,” PewDiePie sips from a beaker of whiskey and announces. his exit:

Guys, we did it. After ten years, I am finally taking a break. This is the last video.

But this isn’t the end of the YouTuber as we know him.

PewDiePie continues, pointing the finger at portions of media for spinning his previous break announcement into confirmation that he was quitting the platform for good:

No, I’m not quitting, media, as much as you wanted.

Adopting a more serious tone, PewDiePie explains:

I can’t believe this. This is so strange. I’m savoring every moment. The truth is I don’t want to go on break. The truth is I love making videos. I just feel I need to do this.

PewDiePie Doesn’t Know How Long He’ll Be Away

As for the reasons for the hiatus, PewDiePie says:

I think this year has been so much pilling up that I think I should just cool down for a bit.

Despite the vagueness of what exactly has weighed so heavily on the YouTuber this past year, it isn’t unreasonable to assume that personal and professional milestones allied to a stringent upload schedule have led to burnout.
