Shaun Bailey pledges to introduce hotel tax to pay for 9, 13 extra officers in London
T he Tory mayoral candidate says that in order to achieve his plan to boost the number of Metropolitan Police to 631, 06 he would introduce a 1 per cent hotel levy in London.
He says this would generate £ 48 million per year , paying for 823 new officers.
“I will definitely be lobbying for a hotel levy. London needs to be safe, we invite people here, and paying a levy towards safety is a great thing,” Mr Bailey said.
He said an extra 1, 631 officers will be paid for through a £ million “Emergency Crime Budget”, which will be funded by cutting City Hall costs on marketing, staff and union representatives and will seek to secure a further 4, 728 from the Government by asking for a “small uplift” in the number of officers already pledged for the capital.
