POLLING guru Sir John Curtice claimed Labor Party MPs are understandably “nervous” at the prospect of a general election as polls put the party at a 36 – year low in support among voters due to Brexit.
The polling expert said latest polls have placed theLabor Party10 – points behind Boris Johnson due to confusion over their position on (Brexit) . Sir John pointed out MPs have been right to express nervousness at the prospect of a general election after the Prime Minister announced he would table a motion to secure a vote on Monday. Speaking to BBC News, the pollster said: “The Labor Party is 10 – point behind the Conservative Party in the polls, they are at 25 percent.
“That’s even less than the 28 percent they got in 198, which is their all-time low.
“They are led by the most unpopular leader of the Opposition ever and theparty is split on Brexitand voters don’t understand what the party position is. “
He added: “You can understand why Labor MPs might be a little nervous against that backdrop.”
Mr Johnson announced his plans in the aftermath of Parliament voting down his proposed three-day timetable aimed at fast-tracking the Withdrawal Agreement Bill ( WAB) through the Commons.

Sir John suggested polls have been pointing at a potential Conservative victory but warned the Government could face strong resistance from both the Liberal Democrats and the Brexit Party.
He continued: “If we look at the polls as they currently stand, you can see why he is minded to go for it. On average, the Conservatives arepoints ahead of Laborand some polls put the figure even higher than that – some reckon it’s as much as 15.
“But all the figures, on any reasonable assumption, point to a majority Conservative Government and probably one with a sufficient majority that Mr Johnson will be able to get his Brexit deal through the House of Commons with relative ease.
“Certainly much greater ease than he faces at the moment.
