Sir Ed Davey, co-leader of the Lib Dems, said his former boss had “so much to offer British politics” and was needed in Parliament. Speaking on Sky News ’Sophy Ridge on Sunday, Sir Ed said:“ I want her back in Parliament as soon as possible.

When asked he felt sorry for Ms Swinson, he replied: “Absolutely, the whole party is deeply upset and disappointed.

“Jo was a friend and a colleague and I want her back in Parliament as soon as possible.
