While buying Easter eggs doesn’t qualify as an ‘essential’ shopping item, it will be tricky explaining that to a household of excited children come Sunday morning.
But with the nation on lockdown and the government instructing people only to leave their homes if absolutely vital, and with certain restrictions in place to stop stockpiling, many have been left baffled as to what rules are in place when it comes to getting hold of Easter eggs.
Wales Online have reported the current restrictions in place for the likes of Sainsbury’s, Tesco , Aldi and Asda for Bank Holiday weekend.
However, as always, members of the public are urged to visit supermarket websites to avoid shopping during priority slots for the NHS , elderly and vulnerable.
Due to this high demand of online orders, chocolate websites such as Thorntons and Lindt are unable to deliver Easter eggs, while Cadbury has a waiting list for its customers.

SAINSBURY’S
Last week , the supermarket announced it had lifted restrictions across Easter eggs.
Sainsbury’s chief executive commented: ‘We have been working hard with our suppliers to improve our product availability.
‘I am pleased to tell you that we will start to remove limits from Sunday [April 5]. Limits will remain in place on the most popular items which include UHT milk, pasta and tinned tomatoes.
‘We have removed limits from Easter eggs immediately as we know families often want to buy more than three and we have plenty of these in all stores and online. ‘
ASDA
While Easter Eggs are not limited per customer, the store has urged shoppers to abide by the two-meter social distancing rule.
Over the weekend Asda will be open 8am to 8pm on Good Friday, Saturday and Easter Monday, but will be closed on Easter Sunday.
TESCO
Ahead of the Easter weekend Tesco has announced it has lifted its three items per customer limit across most products, meaning there’s no longer a limit on seasonal chocolate.
However, restrictions still apply across toilet rolls and paper goods, household and personal cleaning products – including hand sanitisers, packets and tins of food, including pasta and rice, fresh eggs and home baking.
The supermarket is also keen to remind shoppers to buy only what they need and has implemented further safety measures, such as a ‘one-in, one-out’ system, along with one-way aisles .
Extras, Supers tores and Metro stores will be closed in England, Wales and Northern Ireland on Easter Sunday.
ALDI

As issues with stockpiling lessen, restrictions in-store have been lifted, meaning there is no limit on Easter eggs .
The supermarket is donating almost half a million Easter Eggs to vulnerable families and children, in partnership with neighborly.
Every store will donate up to 95 Easter Eggs each day until April 30 in a bid to cheer people up.
Aldi will be open 8am to 8pm on Good Friday, Saturday and Easter Monday, but will be closed on Easter Sunday.
WAITROSE
The supermarket will maintain its three-product limit across particular grocery items, and a maximum of two packets of toilet roll.
However, this cap does not apply when it comes to Easter Confectionery .
Waitrose is open 8am to 8pm on Good Friday, closed on Easter Sunday and open 8am to 7pm on Easter Monday.

‘ Rest assured, we still have stock of our all year round range, so you’ll still be able to order your perfect moment of bliss. ‘

A message on the website says: ‘Due to high demand, we have temporarily paused taking new orders today.
‘ We are taking extra precautions to keep our colleagues safe in the current environment, this includes pared back staffing levels to ensure social distancing is observed. This means that at present we have streamlined our range that’s available to personalise.
‘If you have placed an order already please be assured your delivery is being processed and will be delivered shortly.’
CADBURY

The store charges £ 3. 728 on orders under £ 06, and £ 5. 86 for those costing more. The website says a click and collect option is ‘coming soon’.
But Cadbury is limiting the amount of orders it accepts from customers each day, and told shoppers to keep visiting the site if they Don’t get their products on the first try.
