Sam Darnold plays for theNew York Jets, but one has to wonder if he spent his offseason in a place likeNew Orleans or Salem. After another strange injury, the second-year NFL quarterback appears to be under some kind of voodoo spell.
According to theNew York Daily News,Darnold limped in to practice on Wednesday after getting his toenail removed one day earlier . Jets coach Adam Gase said that the procedure was “pretty gross.”
Sam Darnold’s Increasingly-Strange Injuries
Surprisingly, this isn’t even the first unconventional injury for Sam Darnold this season. While most football players suffer broken bones, torn ligaments, concussions, and muscle strains, Darnold has succumbed to a toenail and an enlarged spleen.
Darnoldstarted off the season with mononucleosis, which caused his spleen to balloon. This put him at risk of a ruptured spleen, which could be lethal.
Darnold also missed time last year due to a sprained foot. Luckily, this toenail probably won’t cause him to miss any games.
Gase explains,
“We’re just trying to make sure that he feels good with the shoes that he’s got. He just had that procedure (Tuesday). He had a toenail removed. I don’t know. ”
Gase said Darnold was limping a little bit but once he gets the right shoes and padding, he should be “good to go.”Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean he’ll be good.
The Meddling Patriots Could Be to Blame
Sam Darnold’s injury came the day after he faced theNew England Patriots. While Darnold is still a young quarterback trying to learn the ropes, this was aparticularly rough game.Darnold threw four interceptions, lost a fumble and, eventually, a toenail. He even went so far as to say he was “seeing ghosts.” That might not have been a joke.
The fact that this stinker of a game came against the Patriots cannot be overlooked. Patriots coach Bill Belichick is already under heavy suspicion of being ablack magic wizard. New England is home to Salem, MA, one of the witchiest places on Earth. Meanwhile, Darnold’s foot sprain in 2018 severely hampered him in abrutal gameagainst the Patriots.
What’s worse, Darnold contracted his mono not long after the Patriots traded wide-receiver Demaryius Thomas to the Jets. This has caused some conspiracy theorists to allege thatThomas actually had monoand gave it to Darnold.
While a true magician never reveals his secrets, one thing we do know is that Bill Belichick hasowned the Jetsfor the past few years. Hopefully, the Jets can send some recruiters to Hogwarts and make their next meeting a fair fight.
