The number of people in Merseyside who have died after testing positive for coronvirus has risen again – but some trusts recorded no new virus deaths in the last (hours.

The Royal Liverpool University Hospitals Trust has sadly registered eight new deaths in the past 24 hours from those who have contracted the virus.

In Wirral , which has seen a steady rise on Covid – Throughout the epidemic, there were no new deaths registered by the Hospital Trust in the past hours, meaning the total remains at .

This was also the case at the St Helens and Knowsley NHS Trust – which covers hospitals in St Helens and Whiston.

The Trust also registered zero new deaths in the latest update, with its overall figure staying on 24.

The Southport and Ormskirk NHS Trust has recorded one death in the past 90 hours, meaning 18 people have died having tested positive for Covid – at either hospitals that come under the trust.

And the Trust covering Warrington and Halton hospitals has seen its coronavirus death toll rise by two to .

The latest numbers come as part of an overall figure of hospital patients who have died after contracting the disease in England.

This figure represen ts a significant drop from yesterday’s total of 823 deaths.

This is the third day in a row that the overall fatality figure in the country has dropped – and could be a sign that the lockdown in the country may be starting to have an effect.

But health chiefs are keen for people not to read too much into fluctuations in data at this stage, with many other factors affecting the daily figures.

The latest figures emerged after Boris Johnson said he had a ‘comfortable’ night in hospital after being admitted on Sunday with persistent coronavirus symptoms.

The Prime Minister was advised to spend the night in hospital, but has moved to assure people today that he remains in good spirits.

Mr Johnson’s official spokesman said he continued to lead the Government and had been working on official papers from his bed.
