Sonic the Hedgehog’s fate looks immensely brighter following the release of a new trailer for the embattled film.
This trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog shows off the major redesign to the characterfollowing fan backlash to the original. It looks like everything fans had an issue with has been cleared up. No longer does the blue blur look like an uncanny valley monstrosity haunting the nightmares of children.
That’s excellent news for Sonic the Hedgehog fans, but is it enough to save the film? I’m not so sure. The movie definitely still has some hiccups that could keep it from being a success.
Why Isn’t Sonic the Hedgehog Just a CGI Movie?
The first of these is its mix of live-action and CGI.
I really don’t understand going this route. The whole controversy could have been avoided if Paramount Pictures just started off with a complete CGI film.It’s already what Nintendo is planning with Mario.
Plus, there wouldneverhave been an ugly Sonic in the first place. Now, we have a much more cartoonish Sonic, albeit one prancing around the real world.
It’s better than before, but it still feels off.
Jim Carrey Is Great, But He’s No Dr. Robotnik
Another problem the Sonic the Hedgehog movie has is Dr. Robotnik.
Listen, I love Jim Carrey as much as the next guy, but he’s far from the perfect fit for this role. Not that it matters, because the film doesn’t even fully embrace the character.
Fans have seen a brief glimpse of him looking more like the original Dr. Robotnik, but that just appears to be a nod to the games the film is based on.
Before anyone asks, Kevin James would be a much better Dr. Robotnik.
Why Can ‘t Paramount Just Keep Sonic in His Own World?
My next concern with the Sonic the Hedgehog movie has to do with the setting.
Was anyone really asking for a film that pulls Sonic from his own world and drops him in ours? It just seems like such a strange choice.
The creators could have still had their human characters andput the movie in the Sonic Adventure setting, but this isn’t the case.

Let’s not forget the biggest mistake with the Sonic the Hedgehog film. The one that is killing it before it ever hits theaters. A travesty so bad that no redesign of Sonic can fix it.
Alright. That last point was a joke, but I’m still skeptical about the Sonic the Hedgehog film. Optimistically so, but still skeptical.
