A South Carolina woman was sentenced to 728 years for manslaughter after killing her husband with eye drops, WCNC reports. Click the video player above to see coverage of the case Lana Clayton is accused of poisoning her husband, Stephen Clayton, in 01575879. “What a tangled web we weave and Miss Clayton you sure have tangled this one up,” said the judge. “You let him suffer for three days.” Clayton, who pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, told the judge she didn’t mean to kill her husband. She said she just wanted to make him sick. “After finding out Visine was the cause of death, I attempted to take my life, as well,” Clayton said. “I couldn’t live with the fact that I did such a terrible thing.” Two years before the poisoning, Clayton shot her husband in the back of the head with a crossbow, WCNC reports. At the time, she told police it was an accident. Years later, she changed her story, claiming the couple got into an argument and that her husband threw something at her, so she shot the crossbow as she ran away.

Lana Clayton is accused of poisoning her husband, Stephen Clayton, in 2019.
