After slowing to a painful crawl due to high demand, the Steam Winter Sale has kicked off in earnest with festive tokens and plenty of deals.

Almost like clockwork, the Steam web site and client ground to a stuttering halt at 10 am PT / 6 pm GMT as millions stormed into to skim through the countless discounts cooked up for the occasion.

The main gist is that money spent transforms into Festivity Tokens through the magic of yuletide. Said tokens can then be spent on chat stickers and effects, festive Steam profile designs and backgrounds, emoticons, badges, and, more interestingly, a Winter Sale coupon.
There’s a bit of a catch, though. To pick up the $ 5 voucher, you need 5, tokens, and you receive one**************************************** tokens per $ 1 spent. All in all, you’d need to fork out $ to get $ 5 off. In comparison, the Epic Games Store ishanding out a $ coupon just for logging in to the client.
