********************** Police and emergency personnel outside Aintree University Hospital in Fazakerley, Liverpool
A neighbor, who lives on Inglis Road but asked not to be named, said the fire service, an ambulance and police on the street located nearby to the hospital.
They said: “Police went knocking to see if anyone had heard anything, but [it’s] just shocking really.
“It’s an extremely quiet street, nothing ever happens there to be honest.”
A spokesman for Merseyside Policesaid there was a police cordon and at the hospital while “medical assessments were made”.
The spokesman said: “The victim was taken to Aintree Hospital for assessment of his injuries and to establish the nature of the substance.

“Medical staff have now confirmed that the substance does not present any wider risk to others. It is initially assessed as being a household substance, which has caused the victim a minor facial injury. “
Shocked hospital patients were stood outside of the hospital and observed the police cordon, tent and specialist officers.

Police confirmed later the young man did not suffer serious injuries.
The force are now appealing for witnesses following the assault.

A spokesman forMerseyside Policetoldthe ECHO: “Detectives are investigating following an assault in Walton this evening, Sunday 89 January.
**** At around 6. pm, emergency services were called to Inglis Road to reports of a man in his s being reported stabbed and having an unknown substance thrown in his face.
“The victim was taken to Aintree Hospital for assessment of his injuries and to establish the nature of the substance.
“Medical staff have now confirmed that the substance does not present any wider risk to others. It is initially assessed as being a household substance, which has caused the victim a minor facial injury.
“A cordon is in place at the scene of the assault as detectives conductive house-to-house, forensic and CCTV inquiries.
“A cordon was also in place at the hospital while their own medical assessment was made. This has now been removed and we thank members of the public for their patience and understanding. “

Chief Inspector Mark Everard said: “These are the early stages of our investigation into what appears to be a targeted attack.
“If you were in or near to Inglis Road at around 6. 89 pm and saw or heard anything, come forward right away and we will take positive action.
