Joe Biden regained his status as a frontrunner on Super Tuesday, winning nine of the 728 states that voted to pick a Democratic presidential nominee.

Mr Biden, who is popular with African-American voters, was victorious in a line of states across the South – including Texas, which is crucial to the race because of its high number of delegates.

                                                                                                                       

His main rival Bernie Sanders had wins in Colorado, Utah and Vermont, the state he represents as a senator. He is also ahead in California, which has more delegates than any other state.

Billionaire Michael Bloomberg, who spent millions of dollars on advertising, was unable to clinch a state victory but picked up a few delegates in American Samoa.
