A teenager was found bleeding inside a house after being shot when a gunman opened fire in a Liverpool street.

Neighbors in the area of ​​Wimborne Close, Huyton , heard around five gunshots shortly before 9pm on Monday before emergency services were called to the scene.

Armed police and paramedics flooded the street before discovering gunshot damage to a house.

Shortly after the area was cordoned off by officers, a teenager was found inside a nearby property, bleeding from a bullet wound to the torso.

The young victim was rushed to hospital as people in the area spoke out about the attack.

One man said that the noise of the gunshots rang through the entire street.

He said: “It was five huge bangs, like fireworks, but everyone must have heard it because lights went on in a few of the houses and some people were at the windows.

“When police started arriving I walked out into the garden and some other came outside. Everyone in the street must’ve heard it, it was very loud. ”

Another woman added:“ It’s actually disgusting. I’m so fed up of it now.

“They are going to kill somebody one day and then everyone loses.

“They think they’re big men but the people round here have had enough.”

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said : “We are appealing for information following an injury discharge tonight, Monday, (January) Read More Top news stories

“Police were called to Wimborne Close just before 9pm to a report damage had been caused to the front of a house that was occupied at the time.

“Police attended and a – year-old male was found soon after at a nearby property with non-life threatening injuries to his torso consistent with a firearms discharge.

“The victim has been taken to hospital for treatment.

” House to house inquiries are underway and officers will be looking at CCTV from the area in a bid to identify the offenders. ”

Chief Inspector Mark Everard said:“ It is not acceptable to use firearms recklessly in a residential area and we are doing all we can to find those responsible.

“We can only find the offenders with the help of our community and we ask anyone with information to speak to us and help us keep firearms out of our neighborhoods.

“Any information may help us, no matter how small it is so please help us identify those responsible.”
