Will Lutz’s 58-yard field goal at the buzzer lifted the New Orleans Saints to a thrilling 30-28 win over the Houston Texans on Monday night.
DeShaun Watson had given the Texans a 28-27 lead with : 37 left after he hit newly acquired Kenny Stills on a 37-yard touchdown. The extra point was no good, but the Saints were called for roughing the kicker, the second attempt was good.
The Saints had one of the most explosive offenses in theNFLlast year, but only mustered three points in the opening half. It appeared as though New Orleans was on its way to points on its second drive, butDrew Breesthrew an uncharacteristic red zone interception — his first in 105 attempts. The Texans’ offense then took the field, andDeshaun Watsonlaunched a 54-yard pass toWill Fuller, a play which jumpstarted Houston’s offense, and led to its first scoring drive of the game. Watson was the one who finished it off, running it in from 21 yards out. The third-year quarterback went down hard, however, and spent the next few minutes in the medical tent being examined.
While Watsondid return to the game, his work did not get easier. He has been sacked twice and knocked down several times.
