THE ONE SHOW fans got to see Sex Education and The Crown star Gillian Anderson take a seat on the famous green couch this evening to face questions from Alex Jones and Matt Baker. However, some BBC viewers were left “turning” off their TVs following the “awkward” encounter.

Gillian also spoke to hosts Alex Jones and Matt Baker about playing Margaret Thatcher in the upcoming series of The Crown as well as delving into anecdotes about her teenage years. While the questions may have seemed innocent enough, BBC viewers quickly branded the interview “awkward” as Gillian had a rather resigned response to one of Alex’s questions. Alex and. Matt quizzed Gillian over her time on the second season of Netflix series Sex Education. Gillian plays Jean Milburn in the hit series, a sex therapist and mother to teenage lead character Otis (played by Asa Butterfield). As such, the conversation soon. turned to what life was like as a teenager for Gillian herself.

Alex began to probe and asked: “You know, there are lots of rebellious teens in it, and we read a bit about your background, Gillian.”
