Friendsmay have had many of its iconic moments planned out and written by a team of comedy veterans, but there are also many aspects of the show that developed naturally as the series was filmed, aired and became a cultural phenomenon.
One of those moments was the eventual fan- favorite relationship between Chandler (Matthew Perry) and Monica (Courtney Cox).
As showrunners Marta Kauffman and David Crane explained during theFriends25 th anniversary panel at the Tribeca Film Festival (viaDeadline)), they “never intended Monica and Chandler”

Explaining that their original plan for the duo was just a one-night stand and the jokes that would unfold from that, they stated: “The audience reaction was so strong, and their chemistry was so good that we ultimately had to listen to theshow. We knew there’s a real relationship here. “
Eventually, their pairing became the “motor” for a lot of stories and jokes, and we think fans would not have had it any other way.

And in bad news, Kauffman also reiterated that they “will not be doing a reunion show [and] we will not be doing a reboot”.
“The show was about that time in life when friends are your family,” she said. “It’s not going to beat what we did.”
