Joe Exotic, the star of Netflix’s Tiger King series, was once married to a convicted paedophile who is now in prison for murder.

He fell for Jeffrey Charles ‘JC’ Hartpence in , years before he was convicted of his crimes.

Born Joe Schreibvogel, Exotic is currently serving 76 years in jail for paying a hitman to kill Carole Baskin, and of killing tigers to make room for more cats in his zoo.

When he met Hartpence Joe was still grieving the death of his first husband Brian Rhyne, who died of complications related to HIV.

The relationship came to an end when Hartpence held a gun to Joe’s head in a drunken rage, New York Magazine reported.

The couple then married Travis Maldonado in a three person wedding.

The series documenting the events that lead to Joe’s imprisonment has become a huge hit for Netflix .

million) lawsuit as he claims he was “wrongfully” arrested and imprisoned.

Joe was also convicted of eight counts of falsifying wildlife records, and nine counts of violating the Endangered Species Act
