Michael ‘Shroud’ Grzesiek is the latest big-name streamer to make the jump to Microsoft’s Mixer streaming platform.
Shroud’s New Mixer Home
Shroud announced he was moving away from his long-time home on Twitch in tweet authored earlier today. It reads simply;
Same shroud. New home.
He accompanied the news with a tongue-in-cheek video where he’s seen parading towards his streaming setup as if it were the control station for a lunar mission. It’s juxtaposed with high-budget editing and lighting alongside a small cameo from his cat and a heavy dose of Mixer logos.
He follows in the footsteps of defacto Fortnite figurehead and streamer Ninja,who moved to Mixer this summer. Ninja framed his Mixer announcement in a staged video with high production value bolstered with a few choice jokes thrown in for good measure.
Microsoft Steals One of Twitch’s Most Prized Assets
Like the Ninja Mixer move, we imagine Mixer lubricated Shroud’s decision with a hefty financial deal, although to what tune will likely remain a secret.
The ex-Counter Strike pro is arguably among the most popular first-person shooter streamers on Twitch. He regularly draws in, on average, over 10, 000 viewers on any given day. Although he falls short of the popularity afforded to Ninja, he stands among Twitch’s most prized assets. The move represents a further blow to the Amazon-owned streaming platform.

A quick visit to Shroud’sMixer channel reveals a countdown, presumably to his next stream, where we will undoubtedly hear more about the reasons for the move. There are currently over 15, 000 viewers impatiently awaiting Shroud’s first stream on the Microsoft platform.
As with the Ninja, it will be fascinating to watch the repercussions of Shroud’s decision – notably, its impact on convincing other big-names to migrate. And, more importantly, whether his high Twitch viewership figures will translate to the new platform.
