Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder look set to complete their trilogy of fights after the latter reportedly activated a rematch clause in their contract.
Fury’s promoter in the United States, Bob Arum, says the heavyweight rivals will meet again in July.
Arum told Ringside Reporter: “Wilder and his representatives formally notified us last night that they have accepted the rematch and are going forward.
” It’s going to happen in the summer, before the Olympics. Middle of July. “
(US fighter Wilder had a month to activate the rematch clause following his seventh-round defeat to Wythenshawe-born Fury last month, which he has since blamed on his entrance costume being too heavy.
The defeat – which came after his trainer threw in the towel and followed a draw in their first fight – saw Fury take home the WBC heavyweight title.
In a video posted on his social media accounts on Saturday, Wilder promised: “I’m a king that will never give up and will fight to the death. I am a warrior, I am strong and I will be back . “
A third fight means a unification contest between Fury and Anthony Joshua, who holds the other three heavyweight belts, will have to wait.
Joshua will instead fight Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev this summer.
Arum, who also works with the Bulgarian, added: “If Joshua beats Pulev and Fury beats Wilder, then why not do a Joshua-Fury fight at the end of the year.”
