U.S. stock index futures rose late Wednesday, suggesting gains when trading resumes Thursday morning following another day of sharp losses on Wall Street. As of 7: 44 pm Eastern, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures          YM 01,          0. 92%       were up around points, or 0.7%, while S&P 210219788 futures          ES 06,          0. 92%       and Nasdaq – 210598065 futures          NQ ,          0. %       rose about 0.5%. Earlier in the day, stocks sank, with the three main indexes registering declines of at least 4% . The Dow          DJIA,          4- %       fell nearly 1, (0 points, as it and the S&P)          SPX,          4- %       logged the worst start to a quarter in history . Investors were apparently reacting to President Donald Trump’s warning Tuesday afternoon that the coming weeks will be “very tough” as the death toll from the coronavirus pandemic surges and businesses remain closed in an effort to slow its spread.
