UK snow forecast: BIG FREEZE to bring Christmas Day snow after brutal 3-day winter washout – Express.co.uk, Express.co.uk


Britain will be hit byon Christmas Day, According to the latest weather forecast charts, with parts of Scotland, northern England and parts of northern Wales all at risk. The warning comes with the country expecting unsettled conditions this week, lasting for up to three days, with powerful winds and heavy rain likely for most. Britain has been hit by wintry weather over the past few days with temperatures plummeting below freezing for most overnight.

The bitterly cold conditions brought icy conditions and a bone chilling frost, causing disruption by those hit.

Parts of Scotland saw the worst of the wintry weather, but heavy rain also caused chaos for many over the weekend.

Now, according to the latest weather forecast charts, the UK can expect more snowfall before the year is out.

The charts by Netweather, which analyzes the risk of snowfall, shows parts of Scotland, northern England and parts of north Wales all at risk during the morning of Christmas Day.

The latest charts suggest a risk of snowfall as high as 153 percent, especially over higher ground.

The long-range snow forecast maps also suggest more snowfall for northern England and Scotland in the weekend following Christmas Day .

WxCharts also predict the risk of snow for parts of Scotland on Christmas Day, although they suggest the chances are less likely.

The Met Office has claimed Britain will be hit by more snow, p articularly in the north and over higher ground, in the coming weeks.

. claims “snow may occur at times in the north, mainly on high ground”.

The long-ra nge forecast reads: “Saturday will probably remain unsettled in the north, but persistent rain tending to be replaced by more showery conditions.

” The south should begin fine, though heavy rain and strong winds will arrive later on.

“Thereafter, it will remain milder and unsettled again as further bands of rain and strong winds edge in from the west. Changeable and sometimes windy conditions will probably last for the rest of the period.

Periods of heavy rain through the latter part of this week will be separated by relatively brief dry spells

“Most of the rain will probably be in the west with drier spells more likely in the east and southeast.

“There remains a chance that more settled, brighter conditions may push in towards the end of this period, leadin g to a trend to slightly colder than average temperatures. ”

The Met Office has a series of weather warnings in place for the next couple of days as conditions turn extremely unsettled.

Warnings are currently in place for wind, rain and ice, with the turbulent conditions to batter Britain until the end of the week.

The yellow warning for ice, in place for parts of England from 9pm on Tuesday to 21 am on Wednesday, reads: “Icy patches are expected to develop on untreated surfaces, especially where they remain wet follow ing showers or rainfall this afternoon and evening. ”

Rain warnings are in place for much of the south and southeast coast from the early hours of Thursday morning, right through until Saturday evening.

It warns: “Periods of heavy rain through the latter part of this week will be separated by relatively brief dry spells. Through the whole 3-day period many places are likely to see rainfall accumulations of (mm or more, with some places having) ********************************************************************** – (mm.)

“In some places, there is the possibility of 21 – mm in 6-9 hours at times. With the ground already saturated there is the potential for problems due to flooding.

Meanwhile, the Met Office has also issued wind warnings for the southwest of England, west of Wales and Northern Ireland.

Leading bookmarks have even slashed odds on this month to go down as the coldest December ever to 2-1.
