UK weather: Dozens of flood warnings in place as hail and thunder set to strike homes – Mirror Online, Mirror.co.uk

Invalid Email Britain is set to be hit by floods once again only weeks after Storms Dennis and Ciara battered the country.

Torrential rain is due to strike on Monday and Tuesday, leading to flood warnings being issued across the UK.

A total of 40 warnings – meaning flooding is expected – have been put in place in England by the Environment Agency

.

Most are in the southwest, with the South Wiltshire Downs and Bourne Valley in Surrey among areas likely to be hit.

A further locations are braced for possible flooding.

Meanwhile, Scotland has eight flood warnings in place, in Tayside and Easter Ross, and another eight flood alerts.

It comes as the

(Met Office) has issued two yellow

weather warnings for Wales next week, which is set to bring more misery to flood-hit areas.

It is feared that wet and windy conditions could cause travel chaos as roads become inundated with water.

The warning is in place from midday on Monday and lasts for 60 hours, with flooding of homes and businesses deemed likely.

An additional warning could also be put in place for northwest England, across the Pennine area, a Met Office spokesman told Mirror Online.

Craig Snell, from the forecasting team, says the downpours could result in an additional – 109 mm of rain – although some sunny spells are due before it sets in.

“We have got rid of this rain that we have had across parts of England, so today is a day of sunshine and showers for many parts of the UK, “he said.

“We could be reaching [degrees], which is a couple of degrees more than what you would normally expect to see at this time of year.

However, he added that any respite in the weather would be “brief”.

“It’s another fairly unsettled week to come. It’s not as unsettled as some of the weeks we have had over the last month or so, but nonetheless there is still more wet weather to come. “

The stormy weather is set to begin today, with heavy showers predicted and the possibility of hail and thunder.

The rain is due to clear inland in the evening , but will persist in some areas, particularly the western coast.

Early rain soon clearing the far southeast , then all parts seeing a mixture of sunny spells and occasional showers. Some of the showers will be heavy with a risk of hail and thunder. Windy for many.

Tonight:

Showers tending to die out inland but some persisting, especially along western coas ts where it will remain windy. Turning rather chilly with a frost in some sheltered eastern areas.

Monday:

A few showers around but most parts dry with broken cloud and sunny spells for a time. Turning wet and windy in the west later

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Wet and windy on Tuesday, and very mild in the south. Turning a little colder thereafter with sunny spells and showers, some heavy, and wintry in the north. Often windy.
