UK weather forecast: Snow to BLANKET the nation with more warnings in force for icy chaos – Express.co.uk, Express.co.uk


Snow blizzards have hit some parts of the country with heavy showers and blustery gales forecast for other areas. Derbyshire is one of the areas that has been hit by the worst of the snow fall.

Leicestershire saw one motorist stranded in their car due to floodwater following torrential downpours.

The Met Office has warned that more heavy rain, blustery gales and some sunshine has been forecast for the rest of the weekend in most parts of the country.

The Environment Agency has issued (flood warnings and) flood alerts for some areas.

More snow could be falling as temperatures continue to drop over a “blustery weekend”, according to Met Office meteorologist Greg Dewhurst.

************** Mr Dewhurst continued: Mr Dewhurst said : “Anyone who is out Christmas shopping will have to wrap up warmly.

” Over the high ground of northern England and Scotlan d, some places may have a covering of snow.

“Temperatures for most places will be between 3C (

. 4F) and 7C ((**************************************************************. 6F), with maximum temperatures of************************************************************* (C) (F) in the southeast where the best of the sunshine will be.

East Yorkshire has seen plummeting temperatures lead to pockets of ice and snow become hazardous for drivers on the road.

So far, there have been four weather warnings put in place by the Met Office.

A yellow ice warning has been put in place for northern Wales near Bangor and St Asaph.

The Met Office has warned roads and railways could be affected.

The largest yellow weather warning has been issued from the north of England around Manchester, up to Perth in Scotland.

Areas impacted by the ice include: Leeds, Carlisle, Manchester, Sheffield, Ripon, Newcastle, Glasgow and Edinburgh.

An ice warning has also been issued for the whole of Northern Ireland.

However, Newry, Armagh and some parts of Belfast have a yellow warning in place for snow with public transport services likely to be impacted.

A Met Office meteorologist said: “For Monday, further showers will affect the north and west, wintry on hills.

“For Tuesday, outbreaks of rain are expected for central and southern areas, with the risk of snow on high ground.

“Northern areas will be drier with sunny spells. ”

Snowfall began just before midnight and will continue until around 8am on Sunday morning.

There is also a chance of more snow next week, according to Meteogroup.
